Motor Trend Best Driver's Car
Does anyone know the what became of the Z/28 used in the 2014 Best Driver's Car test?
Looking at the pictures, I can see that it is a red non-AC car. It has the wicker bill spoiler added, and it appears to have a California manufacturers license plate. There weren't very many red non-AC cars, so it shouldn't be too hard to identify. It's a special car, sort of a milestone for a Camaro to win this title. I would like to know if it is still around. Anyone know about it? I searched the forum, but didn't find anything. |

1970Judge might have some info. But, we really have two options here. It was either one of the six EX no-VIN mules or 1 of the 4 CTF cars (all US spec). From the pics I've seen, it has a Michigan plate which tells me it might be a CTF.

Just did some photo comparisons of underhood pics of the motor trend test car and CTF#65, not #65 based on hood prop shock markings, upper radiator hose markings, and low miles 336 when sold by a Florida dealership.

If you scroll down to 2014.... lol... there's a good bit of pics of the car here
https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/mtbdc/ Might be the same car that's on the Car and Drivers Lightning Lap cover too https://www.instagram.com/p/s8sbkPK77B/ But IIRC... a white car did the laps that won it's class https://www.instagram.com/p/sQd25iSJkj/

Interesting. I wonder if it might be a GM press car, as the Chris Harris video car was red. That video was shot in Wales in the UK, but the car in the video still had US plates on, and I'm not aware of any red Z/28s currently still in the UK so maybe GM shipped it back again after for the US press?
Edit to add picture - yes michigan plate as shown 040 683 |

Might be some info, somewhere in these series of articles (more links to other articles more down the page)
https://www.motortrend.com/cars/chev...term-update-4/ *edit* Ignore, that is a different car than the BDC video. It's got AC |

Someone should write a book on these cars before all this fresh, corporate knowledge is gone. For all we put into this forum (and we LOVE it), it could go down in a flash--forever.

How do you tell if it is an AC car from the photos?

If you can see the interior temp control, on the right, just below the radio, there is a snowflake just below the blue dot, if it has AC.
Under the hood, there is a refrigerant line visible between the drivers side engine cover and the brake booster if it has AC. If you can see the decal on the radiator support just to the drivers side of the hood latch, the AC car decal is larger and and states "R134a" |
