Can they run the Z next year since it won't be in production?

GM generally supports current products for Showroom Stock.

When the 4th Gen was on the chopping block they ended factory support in 1999 and went racing with the Vette instead in the new(then) Super Grand Sports Class.

Lots of privateers were running the hand me down 4ths from 99-02 in the GS class.

I think the same thing happens with the 5/6th.

GM will support the 6th and the older 5th will be campaigned by smaller teams.

Thanks, I want to see what happens to the GT350R when it is "detuned".

On to next year. You know how this type of racing is. A brand new car shows up, and they let the team race. If that team is kicking to much ass, then new rules are applied. They start messing with things to slow the car down.

I hope next year that the new 6th Gen starts with a smaller and lighter Camaro. The Rum Bum team was coming on strong until they had issues. I'm looking forward to next year!

I am a huge NASCAR fan but I have been watching this sports car series on tv a lot this season. The final at Atlanta is on tv today, taped of course. My question is how close to stock are these cars? The engine, the suspension? What are the rules for modification. I hear them talk a lot about weight and intake adjustments or penalties. I think I may go see this series in person next year.

Well Ford ran one or two out of Scott Maxwells shop and on their maiden voyage one blew up and one crashed..

They went back to the old car for the rest of the season as the new 350 needs more shaking down in testing/

After winning a couple of races after debuting, the GT350R.C's performance was tempered a little just as they had already done to the Z/28.R's earlier in the season by IMSA after an early successful winning streak on track before winning again at COTA. The BMW last season and the Porsche this season had the edge from for most of the season.

Just saw this. They are fairly close to stock. The engine has to be sealed from the manufacturer and no changes can be made. The obviously gut the interior and remove anything that isn't necessary to race. Suspension can be tweaked but has to use stock parts. IMSA says what you can and cannot add/remove. Basically the Z/28.R cannot do much because it is so dominate. In fact the had to use a 60mm restrictor on the intake. Cars like the 370Z are permitted much more changes.
