2010 Camaro SS Horn Chirps Spontaneously - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hi all. I just bought a '10 Camaro SS with 45K miles last week, and am having an issue with the horn spontaneously chirping at different times of day. It has been inconsistent...some days it will do it, some it won't, sometimes it's late night/early morning, sometimes it's during the day (yesterday, it was at 9 in the morning).

The only thing consistent about the chirping is the number of times the horn actually chirps...the horn will chirp 7 times in a row, wait a couple of seconds, then chirp 7 more times. Yesterday, it only chirped 7 times in a row once. I have checked video when it happens to see if anything disturbed the car before or after the chirps happen, and have also done a "bump test" with my fist while walking around the car. Nothing ever disturbed the car, and the test didn't set anything off.

I have checked for codes with my scanner. There are none showing, and none pending. I took the car by the place I bought it (VW dealership), they couldn't do anything for it, and the Buick/GMC dealership they work with next door said to take it to the Chevrolet dealership. One of the people I spoke with told me to move the keys further from the vehicle, because it might be a short in the key fob causing a miscommunication with the car, so I'm trying that for a couple of days before taking it to the dealer.

Has anyone had this experience with their Camaro? If so, what was the solution?

With any inexplicable electrical behavior, the first thing to check is the battery. Low voltage does strange things to logic circuits.

Did you check/change the batteries in your remotes?

Did you check/pull the fuse on your horn?

My son had a Mazda 3 Speed that would do something similar. It was the aftermarket alarm system.

I have not checked the battery yet. Just bought the car last week, and this started a couple of days later. Our experience with batteries is they seem to die all the sudden because of the AZ heat. They don't go slowly.
I was told by someone at the (VW) dealership where I bought the car, that they sometimes have an issue when the keys are kept in a close radius to the car. Ours are, of course, near the door, about 20 feet from the car. I moved the keys to the back bedroom yesterday, and the car hasn't made a sound. I'm going to keep check over the next couple of days to see if anything changes, but it seems to be pointing to something going on with the key fobs.
As far as I can tell, there is no aftermarket alarm system on the car. I did a "bump test" on the car to see if it would set anything off, with no reaction.
I'm not very familiar with these key fobs. The other vehicles I have use simple, non-electronic keys, so I'm not familiar with working on these.

Pop out the key and just pry key fob open you'll find a battery inside.

I changed the battery in both key fobs, and have stored them farther away from the car. That seems to be doing the trick.
