I bought the (k1) 7/32 depth tread only because its what was in stock at the time. The (k2) is 10/32. I was not worried about 3/32nds.

The K2 has a 1.5" wider tread too. To be more correct, it looks like the tread width on the K1 Is narrow since it looks like as its comparable to the 295 series width tires. There's a bit more to tires than xxx/xx-xx guys. |

I'm more than a little suspicious about the 315/35-20 K2 tread width (Tire Rack's table). No way is the tread width going to be wider than the section width, and Michelin's own site provides no clarification that I could find. 12" tread width I could agree with.

Lol. I didn't even catch that there are a couple others with similar specs though.
Interesting. |

It's apparently pretty common for BMW and Porsche (N spec) to insist on getting their own versions of tires in certain sizes. Hadn't paid attention to Ferrari doing the same thing, but I'm not surprised. I don't know what the differences are, but I suspect it's about the tactile feedback or how the tires "feel" in various handling tests.
I've been told that the tires you buy on the replacement tire market are commonly not exactly the same as the same mfr & model tire that comes as OE on the same car. Norm |

Weeeeeeeell I picked up a nail in my rear tire (third nail in three months), my rears were getting pretty bald so I'll be replacing them with PSS's. What's the difference between 315/35ZR20XL 110Y B AND 315/35ZR20XL110Y FER ?

One is specific to Ferrari. From what i recall, slight weight difference and tread depth. Dont know beyond that.

If that's the case, I imagine that the "FER" tire is specific to the Ferrari. Which is surprising since that is $80 cheaper than the other tire.

I'm not seeing any "B" tag in the PSS tables at either Tire Rack or Michelin's own site.
There is a K1 and a K2, both being Ferrari OE codes, and it appears that Ferrari has two different applications for the same size tire that differ enough for them to require several differences in the tires. Here's Michelin's list of OE codes, and I don't think they're anything new (TPC goes at least as far back as 1979 that I personally know of) Quote:

I have a 2014 ZL1 on order should be in next month. I have alrady bought the 295/315 MSS and ordered 20x10 and 20x11 one piece forged Lexani's with a hair more offset than factory... +35F, +45R. My qouestion in how much do you think I can lower it?
I wanted the BMR 1.4" front and rear. Do you think I should stick with a 1" kit? |

315 on the back is okay, but the 295 has the same tread width, and a better sidewall angle 0n the the 11 in wheel. So to me a 285/295 combo makes more sense for handling and closer to GM engineering intent! |

The recommended wheel width for the 295s are 10"-11" wheels. I would think the 295/315 combo would be more similar proportionally compared to the GYM 285/305 combo which will keep the ZL1 better balanced. I plan to get 295s at all four corners for my 1LE.
