Suggestions for day drive

New to Phoenix and Arizona in general,

Now that the weather is getting warm, I am looking for a good road trip ~2-4 hours out of town where there wont be much traffic, cops etc.

Does anyone have suggestions on routes to take out of Phoenix?

I always hit this site for good riding... which usually translates into some good driving roads too.

Up to Jerome for lunch is decent, but roads that aren't busy and no cops are rare.

If you get the chance do the Coranado trail (devil's highway) I only came upon 1 car in a hundred miles. It is called the twistiest road in America. It really put my Z through the paces.

Agree that trip up to Jerome is fun... Go the "back" way, through Congress, etc. Not up I-17.
For a twisty road, head out to Tortilla Flat. Might be some traffic to deal with, but the road is fun. Had fun on the Jerome trip with the CTS I had while I lived out there. Now I have another fun car, but no fun roads!

Fun one that's close to town (East Valley really) is up to Tortilla Flats. Starts at the east end of Apache Junction and runs up past Canyon Lake. Nice twisty road, keeps you on your toes. If you want something a little more open, run Hwy 60 up through Globe, head north on 188 past Roosevelt Lake, and it pops out on the Bee Line Hwy. Head south and it takes you back into the valley by Mesa/Fountain Hills/Scottsdale.

Enjoy!!

I agree with the Globe/Miami to Beeline and back trip. Good Mexican food in Globe/Miami too.

Salt River Canyon north of Globe is scenic and can be exhilarating.

The devils highway is a great road! I did a weekend trip and stayed the night somewhere up in the hills and did a full circle.

Been wanting to do another cruise up there sometime.
