First time at the track, kind of confused.
Hey guys so I had my first go at the track this past Saturday the 28th and I had a few issues. For up front info the car was completely stock and I didn't adjust the tire pressure at all for front or rear tires. Still using the pirelli zeros and it's a manual trans, and for time reference it was a 1/8 mile instead of 1/4 which was upsetting.
So my initial problem is I couldn't get a burnout going in the "stage area" or right after where they have the water to wet the tires. Now I've done burnouts in the car before so for the life of me I can't figure out why I couldn't do it at the track. The car would die out as if TC was still active. Then at the line I'm launching too hard and getting far too much slip so I would lose time that way. Al in all I think it was decent timing for a first time manual run. Fastest reaction time was .464 and the fastest 1/8 time was 9.064. Thanks for taking a look and if you have any tips that would be great. |

Make sure the t.c. off.
Drive around the water box and back in the water so the front tires don't get wet. I had best luck launching around 3000rpm...feather the clutch a tad. Drop your tire psi to 18... best to get some drag radials...

Thanks for the info! I had heard about lowering the tire pressure but didn't want to do it first time out. I'll test competitive mode next weekend out at the track.

Don't do a burnout with street tires. Go around the waterbox.....back up staight and give some throttle to clean of the tires. But do lower your tire pressure.

As mentioned your wasting your tires by doing burnouts, I'm surprised they even let you back into the water box without radials or slicks

personally you are wastin ur time and inviting disaster by not gettin DR's...only time I ever had wheel hop even with my suspension mod's was either with street tires or DR's with too high of psi....
what you SHOULD do is first get the car tuned....lol..why you say...so much left on the table with an untuned car....even stock! after you've had you fun with an all new ride(should last long enough to get a good set of DR's!) you can also do some basic suspension mods(sub frame bushings and T/A's....that way you don't blow up your axles... get in touch with dynoSteve over at RDP...https://www.rdpstore.com/ they have an awesome SCT/tune for life deal(you WILL thank me later...lol) since almost every mod requires a tune(car IS all computer..) good luck!...peace

Are you racing at GLD?
I would just go around the water, back up and do a quick little rolling burnout to clean off the tires. Probably they will hook better at 25 than 33. Local guys like Jeremy Satera are good stick shift racers.

Frank- I've already purchased the sct with lifetime tunes and have a tune ready for when I install my CAI intake and Bo white ported TB. I'm going prior to mods and tune just so I can learn how to drag as well as see the noticeable differences on the time slip.
John- No I'm on the south side and the Route 66 raceway in Joliet is closer I believe, so that's where I go to. |

put the tune on the car! learn with the car performing the way it should be....CAI gains meh...
when I first start out we can't drive around the water box at my track...so with nannies off I would do a quick "burn out" in 2nd gear to mainly dry off and clean up the tire...psi was down to about 20... launch rpm was prob 3000 3500...gotta baby it out of the hole... not sure which tune Steve sent you but if you asked he could whip one up for a stock ride...the car runs soooo much better and you get to learn about loading tunes etc... peace..
