2010 Camaro LS3 - Lifter & camshaft TOAST. ADVICE NEEDED

Hey guys, My car started making the worst ticking/knocking noise Ive ever heard the other day. I got it towed to my shop ASAP. Long story short - lifter failure and a toasted camshaft.

I've always wanted a performance camshaft, but never did the upgrade due to labor cost $$. Now I have a 2010 camaro w/120,000 miles broken pretty much worthless - I gotta fix it. My logic is that if They are going to be replacing my lifters and factory camshaft, I might as well get a stage 1 "mild" cam right? Yea, my car has high mileage, but I just replaced my my Master & slave cylinder, along with an LS7 clutch kit last week, am running Borla atak catback, CAI, and BBk Lt's - I am not ready to part out this car just yet, I at least need it to get me through the rest of college. Any recommendations on a good cam, and anything else I need to support it. Would replacing lifters to ls7 lifters along with this cam my tuner recommended https://www.texas-speed.com/p-249-te...l92lsal76.aspx be a good option. Anything besides lifters, need to be upgraded/replaced? Also curious how much should I expect in labor for a camshaft replacement if I wanted to shop around different shops in the Tampa bay area. Thanks in advance

Texas speed has really good cam options. Take a look at them. I put a big cam in mine as a daily driver and love it. With a larger/performance cam you'll need to upgrade your valvetrain. Pushrods, springs, possible trunion upgrade, gaskets, etc. Def lifters for you. The LS7 lifters should be fine for new lifters. They have valve train kits already put together as well for everything you need. Some people take it a step further and upgrade rockers, oil pumps, etc. but that's just for extra insurance. Give Texas speed a call and they can tell you everything you'll need and then what will be for insurance. For the whole upgrade in parts alone though, you're looking around $2k for the parts do a cam upgrade. Labor costs depending on who you go to.

P.S. My cam labor was $1200 but I was also quoted $1700 elsewhere, so just call around. Cheap isn't always the best way to go either though.

Oh I forgot, you'll also need a tune because it will be running rich. That's going to run you about $600. Depending on who you take it to, so you'll need to find a tuner.

on a car with 120K miles id get new:

lifters
lifter trays
LS2 cam gear
C5.R timing chain
LS2 dogbone damper
oil pump
trunion kit
AND AT THE MINIMUM, go through the heads and get them "tidied" up.

CALL KATECH they have a sick deal on their 276cc service for $499 for the pair right now. Cant beat that!

https://store.katechengines.com/cnc-...pair-p599.aspx

in addition to the new:
springs
retainers (go titanium if you got the bread)
locks
seals
spring locators
cam

that you need to replace with your new cam
i would get a custom cam spec'd. the off the shelf stuff is good, but a custom cam will be cut specifically for what you wanna do with the car

who is your tuner? and replacing the cam is ridiculously easy(if you have some ability and tools lol)..go with at least a stage 2 cam from whoever(more rumble out the rear) plus the extra HP don't hurt either...

I use dynoSteve from RDP...his lifetime tune deal cant' be beat. So as you continue to mod he sends you a new tune for free! https://www.rdpstore.com/p-6042-tune...tom-tunes.aspx

I would also cut open the oil filter and see if any sh!t broke lose from the cam or lifter, would be bad to do all the work and have a trashed rod or main bearing(worst case scenario)

Good luck!

PEACE
