New cam retainer plate, often over looked and new one should be used every time it is removed , new bolts for it as well

Glad you mentioned that man. Ordered my new cam kit today but I forgot that. Do you know if the LS3 uses the newer style with the countersunk bolts or does it use the old style?

lol, i was just thinking that. just clean the bolts and use a drop of loctite.

OP, you said "new tensioner". Does that mean a new ls3 style, or a new ls2 or "dogbone" style?

Somehow my ls3 tensioner is still kicking, but i picked up a dogbone for the new build.

I wouldn’t have Speed Inc do it.... That’s just my opinion...

Springs
Pushrods
Trunion upgrade (if you want)
LS7 lifters (if you want)
Supercharger....... :/

I reused the plate, cleaned the bolts and used blue Loctite. They are torx recessed bolts. I used calcium-sulfonate grease on the cam lobes for assembly. Ran it 25 minutes varying rpm 1800-2500rpm. changed oil and added ZDDP to the oil. A lot of people don't seem to do a break in on roller cams. I also see some that have wiped out cam lobes and lifters at 5k miles. So I will always do a break in procedure can't hurt, can only help.

Yes its the newer style one with countersunk bolts , i am aware that you could resuse it. But ive read horror storys of the gasket it has built in not sealing good any more and guys being way down on oil presser from it. I dont like to take that chance and got new one. 20 bucks well spent in my opinion

Save your money on a cam retainer plate and new bolts. No need. Retainer plate failures are very VERY rare. Just a dab of some loctite and you're good to go. Go with the dogbone tensioner, less working parts to fail compared to the stock ls3 unit.
Don't really need too much for a cam swap. Just make sure you have some new, good plugs for the tuner. Most tuners like to tune on silver or copper plugs. They don't last as long as iridium or platinum but they perform a lot better.
