1LE vs SS w/ 3.91 gears
I'll keep this nice and short and to the point..
I know the 1LE has 3.91 gears but also has a different transmission ratio which is great for track use but kind of negates the rear end on street use... Looking at 0-60 and quarter mile times I don't see a big difference.. So which one is quicker? Once again I know the 1LE is setup for track use but if I ever pull the trigger it would see the track/drag less than 10 times a yr.. |

SS would be faster assuming equivalent tires/traction. SS for the drag strip, 1LE for the road course.

Stoplight to stoplight the SS with gears, fun on curvy roads the 1LE.

Tested this out near the end of last season with a friend. The LS3 SS with 3.91s is faster. With similar bolton mods, power, and driving 12.1 (SS) to 12.3 (1LE) as the best for each car in mine shaft Atco weather. He can launch harder on 20" DRs to my possibly better hooking 18" DRs.
It's still a drivers race, but I can't match his best times. I do get a higher MPH, 1LEs seem to trap higher than SSes. He just added a cam, so next season I will have to red light to beat him.

One more question....could you add the 1LE package to a reg. SS at the dealership for the $3500 that is the normal cost when ordered from the factory?

You can add the 1LE suspension after the fact as well as source some wheels and so on, but I am pretty sure the only way for a true 1LE with all options for or even close to $3500 is to have a factory 1LE.
