Comments/Questions from Pittsburgh Auto Show
I was at the Pittsburgh Auto Show tonight and I have a few questions about the Camaro. The Red fiberglass car was there. The fins were open with black plastic grilles inside. Are these to make production? Also the Chevy rep. lady said it will have the LS2 400hp engine. I thought that Fbodfather said that the LS2 will not be the engine. I would think they would use an engine with the active fuel management. I saw the Challenger and it had 13 and 18 fuel mileage on the sticker. It also had $2100 gas guzzler tax added. $40.000 on the SRT.
I would think that with the active fuel management that we should see better than that. At what mileage does the gas guzzler tax apply? They had a 5.3 engine in the dyno room to show the active fuel management system and duribility WOT runs. They did full throttle dyno runs every half hour. Impressive if you figure 6 hours thursday, 12 hours Fri and Sat, 10 hours Sun and Mon. That's 100 demonstrations, 2 times a demonstration, that's 200 times that engine ran full throttle 279 hp runs. I don't know if they bring a fresh engine to each show or use it over and over. |

sorry about the size of the picture, I don't know how to resize them.
Also I was by myself at the show. How do you get the Chevy rep to take a picture of you with the Camaro? Ask them if they will take it of you on the platform, they will volunteer to takt the picture outside the glass. lol |

That's a nice picture. I kinda want "arrest me red" and I kinda don't. But it sure does look fine there.
No LS2. New small block not announced yet - 400hp or more. Fbodfather made it clear by saying they have new stuff we have not heard about yet. Gas guzzler tax is pretty complicated. Gets higher as mileage goes lower, there's a chart. I believe Camaro will use AFM on automatics and Computer aided gear selection (CAGS) on manuals. CAGS helps the Corvette avoid gas guzzler penalty. And rear fender vents are non-functional as was the 1969 Camaro's. |

They had a G8 GXP there with a bronze camellian type paint. I asked about it and they said it was just for the show car. It cost 15,000 for the paint job and you wouldn't be able to match it after body work.

I saw pictures of that one from the Detroit Auto Show -nice car.
Now that one's getting a LS3 with 6 speed manual.. 0-60 mph in 4.7 sec. And Camaro will be even quicker (lighter) |

I have a good question. Why do they call it the Push car?

It's called the Push Car because it is a fiberglass mock up. The interrior just has the seat backs sticking up above a sort of shelf sort of thing about waist level. And the gauges aren't there, just painted flat black.

And ... same engine. You would be AMAZED at what the LS engines have to go through to make production.

Nice pic. I'm really leaning toward red for my 5th gen. It should be able to avoid the guzzler tax.

But I doubt the supercharged version will avoid the gas guzzler tax.

Chevy is bringing concepts to the car shows. Those are similar to production, but they are not production.

Sure does, but I agree with the comment. I think i may opt for blackand white pearl stripes if avail or hugger orange and the carbon fiber stripes they mentioned at one point.

Not too big on "arrest me/charge me a ton for insurance red." Glossy tripple black for me... Does anyone know what mileage is required to beat the gas guzzler tax?
