2015 Camaro 1SS - GPI VVT SS1 build thread
Im going to go ahead and create the build thread for this upcoming weekend. Dad and I are going to be spending the whole weekend doing projects on the Camaro. Weve been accumulating parts over the winter and its finally time to see how it goes.
Heres the list of mods we have going on the car in the next few weekends - we are doing the engine first and then all of the miscellaneous mods after. Camaro as it sits now:
PS - thanks to all of the C5 family that post relevant information to help the younger generation get into cars. I bought my Camaro two years ago and found the forums a little while after. Since then I have learned a ton from all of you, so Im thankful to have had C5 posts as a resource for all of my research and reading this winter. Wish us luck this weekend, hopefully we wont need it |

It will be fun!
THE ONLY change to your list is breakin oil. I’d do BR30. When I did my GPI cam and when GPI did my forged engine, BR30 was used for the breakin... After breakin of the cam, I used LS30...if you intend to go Driven’s oil... Best of luck! -Don

^^Don - the guys at Texas Speed told me the sales rep from Joe Gibbs Racing came in and told them to use the Driven 15-50 instead of the BR30 for LS engines. I told them Camaro5 says to use the Br30 so why the switch and they told me thats what the rep said and now thats what they are using for the work they do in house. Whatever I bought from Texas-speed for my break in oil is what they said to use on the phone - hopefully it works just as well
Edit - grabbed this off my invoice, they guy on the phone told me they dont carry the 30w anymore 76-00106 - Driven Racing Break-In Oil, 15w-50 wt., 1 Quart

Well, that’s new. GPI does a ton too and still use BR30. I guess I’ll need to call Driven ;o).
Seems odd that would change for a cam break-in. I’m betting it’s their other breakin oil... Thanks! -Don

Well must be new or now the recommended BR oil! Hum, BR30 worked good for my forged break-in especially with the tight clearances...
http://www.drivenracingoil.com/dro/b...oil-15992html/ Edit: BR30 still out there.. http://www.drivenracingoil.com/dro/b...oil-16002html/ I’d go with what TSP recommends... they have the warranty... BTW, I did contact Driven to find out why the change... -Don

Keep me posted Don, I was interested in why they switched too. And I didnt mean to say BR30 isnt out there anymore, just that Texas Speed wont sell it to you anymore, instead they push you to the 15w-50. Ill be looking forward to what you find out. Thanks man

Thanks man, hopefully we can post progress and not problems LOL
My Camaro was my first car I ever purchased, but I bought it with the intention of having it as a project dad and I could work on once or twice every year. He used to be a Diesel mechanic and well known tuner of diesel engines (semi and Cat machines). Im hoping he has some skills that transfer over to Camaros like he thinks they will! Were either going to be pleasently surprised or shocked by how little he knows lol |

David is going to check and see if something has changed lately. He will keep me in the loop -- but, he is a technical resource and has not seen anything yet to suggest a change. He will find out for us!

Do you have an thoughts or concerns when it comes to using the Driven 15-50? Anything I should be concerned about since it isnt what you and most of C5 have used? |

Posted here:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...90&postcount=2 Based on what David @ Driven noted, if TSP still has a concern, they should probably use BR40. I believe Driven will be giving TSP a call just to clarify the recommendation. -Don
