BMW M2 Competition

https://jalopnik.com/the-2019-bmw-m2...-fa-1825340061

Be interesting to see how this stacks up to an SS 1LE. The BMWs are typically not "SAE horsepower", they typically dyno at the claimed HP and they have massive torque below the curve usually due to full torque at low RPM that remains pretty flat. I'd have to imagine this will end up costing at least as much as a "base" M4 with all the mods and engine, which usually puts you past 80K easy, but it will be interesting to see how much better this does on the track than the regular M2, due to the changes. 405rwhp is nothing to scoff at. Of course, the regular SS is about equal with the M4, but this M2 competition seems like a fresh attempt at trying to make something faster around a track...

Plus, this isn't a "vs. mustang" thread...

Manual vs manual would be drivers race is my prediction. In the mods game the M2 will run away laughing. In the looks department the M2 looks hideous. I don't care if it's a fancy 'bimmer'. It's ugly.

if you want put your wallet on a crash diet, get one of these. Though, it's nice to see BMW holding on to the manuals.

Working for BMW I can say they are amazing cars but way over engineered and suffer from poor reliability, even in brand new cars. Maintenance is outrageous also. If performance is your main goal they are comparable, but that's about it.

Isn't their cost closer to a ZL1 (or more)?

Looks like an awesome car with great power potential but probably very overpriced compared to its american competition

BMW M is a luxury car that can also go fast. No camaro and corvette can compare to the M's build quality(let's see what the mid engine vettes look like). On the other hand, most M cars can't perform on the track lap after lap right out of the box like the 1LE variants. Even with 405 whp in M2, it is not just about power when tracking, it's the whole package

Depending on how this is priced, and how widely available it is, it could be in the cards.

The M2 packaging is amazing. Much smaller/lighter than 1LE, yet rear seats are more usable, visibility is better, etc. The regular M2 felt underpowered and under tired to me.

This one will fix the power - so it could be the ticket.

On the other hand, it will cost about the same as a C7 Grand Sport 2LT (which I almost bought), and the GS is in a completely different league on track.

Well, probably not as light as you think, the auto trans is 3505 for the regular M2, this thing with bigger brakes, thicker sways, more hardware, is inevitably heavier, but it will still have a lot going for it with DCT, nimble handling and gobs of torque. The only thing that gets you with BMW is the price, I'd expect this to go for at least what an M4 does. Somehow the local dealer marked up an M2 to just over 70K with the m driver package, which is wild. I was looking at that car semi-seriously but the outrageous price and 'meh performance were big detractors. Now it's more like it should be, IMO, more like an M car should be, with the competition. But if that means 85K, I'll still pass.

I drove an M2 and was not particularly impressed with the interior. It was fine just didn't feel any better than a 10k cheaper Camaro. The M6 was much nicer inside, but that's a heavy GT car.

My driving impression of the current M2 was that it was too heavy and underpowered. This version takes care of the power problem, especially since it is likely closer to the M3/M4 power wise than the numbers suggest. It is still a little too heavy for its size IMO, but it is a fun car overall.

M2C is priced at $59k USD.
I doubt it’ll beat a ZL1 around the track especially with the added weight..
But it’s going to be one hell of a fun car to drive IMO.
I’d seriously consider the M2C as my next car unless there are crazy markups.

Are you sure about that $59K price? Typically, with BMW, the steering wheel is an option and things get more pricey from there.
