Horsepower TV LS3 Crate Engine Dyno

I saw the episode of Horsepower TV where they dynoed an LS3 crate engine called the E Rod. They were saying that it is the same engine from the 09 Corvette and 10 Camaro SS. It layed out 490HP and 440TQ. I am wondering if this is the same engine or higher performance version. Anyone know?

I would like to know as well. When did you see the episode of Horsepower TV?

The e-rod LS3 is rated at 430 hp according to the website. It shows it equipped with cast iron manifolds and cats though so that it can be used in a variety of applications legally. I'm assuming they installed it the right way (with long tube headers and no cats) on horsepower tv. This probably explains the better results.

The E Rod package is an emissions legal package for those who require a complete certified engine package. One state currently requires that any new project vehicles registered have an emissions legal package.

I have heard that the dyno at Horsepower is "happy" I don't know.

I had a Corvette configured LS3 on the engine on the engine dyno last year for a cam test story.

With headers and a electic water pump it made a baseline of 480 horsepower.

I think that they are a little under rated.

Robin

Nope, they were installing it in a "supercar", kit car. I caught a little bit of it, but the general theme of the episode was that it was a "eco" friendly supercar, that is legal in more states now (resale-ability). I believe it had a LS1 in it before? I either missed that part or they didn't go into detail... they don't go into much detail of anything.

As for the high HP on their dyno tests.... I would expect HP-TV to pump out close to 500 hp out of a LS3... it was a crate engine. Whatever it was that they did to it (again, either missed or they didn't go into detail), it sounded damn good, and they thought so too!

As for the LS3 E-rod, dunno... do some google, maybe? I guess I wasn't that intersted in the 'e-rod' part of the show.

Can anyone say A.D.D.?

490 flywheel horsepower sounds about right for a stock LS3 with no parasitic loss from accessories (no power steering, alternator, A/C, etc).

At the beginning of the show they stated that it was a crate enging that made 430HP. And they also stated that the car did have a LS1 in it. Thats about all I saw, my DVR messed up, but I will be watching it in the morning

It's crazy that I was randomly looking through channels, randomly found this show that I've never heard of before, come straight to Camaro5, and there's already a thread about it.

Dyno was done with the supplied "Camaro styled" exhaust manifolds and cats. The show high-lighted emission friendly hot rodding from a factory crate engine.
