Too much heat?

Hey everyone,

I've been looking into my options for F/I when I get back stateside and trying to find the best suited for me. However because I am a complete noob when it comes to F/I, I had a quick question. The other day a guy at our car center and I were talking and I said how I was looking to probably do an IPF S/C when I got back and he said that after a few years I would have to get a new block anyways because there would be too much heat and it would ruin it.... Is this true? Any help would be great like I said I'm completely new to F/I and want to make sure I know everything I can before dropping the time and money.

Thanks so much
Aaron

Unless you are driving at 6000 RPM's all the time the supercharger won't even act like it is there. Normal cruising you won't be in boost, it will be there when you floor it though and the higher your get your RPM's the more you start clinching certain muscles.

The guy is wrong ipf sc don't generate that much heat as opposed to a turbo. Block that another issue that depends in how hard you push it and what other mods you plan to do.

along with the S/C what mods would be good engine wise to be sure it would withstand the increase? as in pistons, pushers, etc do we really have that many options?

Most guys I've seen run stock internals, but if you were so inclined you could get forged rods and pistons, yes. Or you could run water/methanol if you really wanted to.

Unless you will be seriously racing the car the LFX stock engine components are really durable. The IPF system will not be pushing the internal past failure points.
I would believe the first weak link is the clutch if you have a manual. But again I have had my IPF system for almost 25k miles and am still running my stock equipment.

Like others have said, if you don't plan to push the power too much, you'll be fine on stock internals. Pistons and rods would be an extremely expensive investment. Probably more than the supercharger itself. If you're a manual, the clutch is the first weak link

There is currently no retailer for pistons and rods. The LF3 parts may work, but have not been confirmed. If you want pistons and rods you will most likely have to contact a shop and have them custom made. $$$$

I happened to check my coolant temp as I was approaching home on my way back from work, 196 degrees F. on a 90 degree day.

Same as when I used to check it pre-S/C.

With the IPF, my Clutch would slip if I got onto it, I replaced the clutch with a Ram dual disc Clutch. Pressure is just slightly more, but not bad at all

I have not installed the Ram - but been looking at it. Waiting to see if Monster comes up with a TWIN to compare. But this is the one below. The second one has an upgraded friction material. Ram also makes a Slave Cylinder, though not sure if any benefit swapping out the slave. The IDeal G's Master has had good reviews for helping the V6 clutch out as well.
