Whipple 2.9 on Z28??

I am really, REALLY, considering the whipple 2.9 kit for my Z. Still disappointed in the acceleration of the car (my Scat pack is faster!), and need to address it asap.

Anyone else have the Whipple 2.9 on their Z?

Why would anyone supercharge a Z/28? Straight line acceleration is not the point of this car.

If I were you, I'd reconsider wanting to supercharge and go with a nice H/C/I package.

I went with 21st Century Muscle Car's 675HP package and couldn't be more pleased! You won't be disappointed. It's as legit as it gets and - best of all - it stays NA. The LS7 is too good of a NA engine to supercharge, IMO.

IMHO, keep it NA. Install a nice cam and some headers. She'll really purr! With a blower, you're asking to heatsoak the poor thing.

I have never lost to a scat pack 392 charger or Challenger

Here's a rare Z/28 I caught in the mountains late last year. Check out his blower. IMO if you wanted to go the blower route perhaps buying a cheaper LS3 2010+ would be an awesome option, not to mention having two different builds with using the same great chassis we have all come to know and love.

I sold a super charged corvette. Yes, it was faster then the Z28 in the straights but I blew 2 engines.

You can do heads and cam on the LS7 and have the same rear wheel power as a blown LS3. I wont even look at a super charger for my Z28. If I wanted that I would just get a Z06. You should at least research the head and cam options.

No it's not. The scat pack might feel faster due to the way power is delivered but it isn't.
Stock for stock the z is a faster car by a good margin.
The thing is, when your engine makes lots of torque all over, and great power through the whole rpm range, it can trick you into thinking it dosen't feel fast. Try looking at your speedometer, that can change your opinion.
I remember when I sold my CBR1000rr and bought a ZX14R, I thought the 14 was slower, then I looked at the Speedo and realized it was just smoother and definitely faster in the range I was comparing (4th gear through 6th)

Unless you have timeslips to prove it the 'seat of pants' judgment can be SOOOOOO decieving.

There's just no way a 3800 lb 505 HP Z/28 will lose to a stock 4350 lb 485 hp Scat Pack 392 if the drivers are equal. No way.

We can certainly get you a setup to destroy a Scat Pack! We install Whipple systems nearly every day.

Whether you wanted to go with the Whipple like you mentioned, or like others have suggested going to a head/cam/intake/header (very impressive what a LS7 can do). The LS7 will respond great.

I see your in Michigan with us, we can do the complete install and tuning for you! Let me know if you have any questions.

Whipple 2.9

I felt exactly the same way a couple of months ago. I have had a number of supercharged and turbocharged cars and thought that's what was needed to make the Z quicker. I had 2 z28's previously and they were 100% stock- I loved them but they just felt like they should have been a little faster. I decided if I bought another one, I would either put a Whipple on it or go full tilt on a built motor. I got SO LUCKY and a dealer took the perfect car on trade and listed it on line. 21st Century Muscle Cars had done a 675HP package (plus some extras) for a local guy and I bought it before they could get the pictures taken. All I have to say is HOLY S word- this car is FAST and MEAN. I have had 3 GTRs, 911 Turbo, a couple of C6 Z06's, Gen5 ZL1, Gen6 ZL1......all great cars and some of them pretty fast but this car is SPECIAL. Find a well taken care of Z, and take it to an experienced, reputable shop that knows the car and you will be amazed at what that motor can do when left NA
just my 2 cents...

Wasn't going to post but, what the hell. NO, don't SC your Z/28 when you can get all the the power you want NA. My Z/28 has 680 crank hp (573 rwhp) and will scare most people that have never experienced that much power.

Even if you plan on tracking the car you can only use so much power on the track. The best part is how cool the engine runs with a 160 thermostat all day long and the expectation of engine longevity. This Z/28 will smoke your Scat pack. Check out the video in my signature.

I frequent the Z/28 section here..I always keep an eye out for a deal on one. The first thing I would do if I bought one is bolt a S/C on it. Now I know it is a Z/28 and I get the history that they are NA track beasts, and I love that. But damn that would be some power in an amazing track car. Yes, heat soak can be an issue, but updating the HX is simple.

so, OP, it's your car, do your thing..(and let us watch as you do it, take pics).
