Has anyone changed out there exhaust on jackstands?

Hi just wondering if anyone has tried it and was it a major pain? I do not have a lift and dont want to pay to get it done. I have a 2SS. Looking to do the long tube headers, and the rest of the system.

Thanks,
Scott

Doing just about anything under the car on stand vs lift is going to suck...but you can do this with no problem.

Although I actually haven't done it with out a lift because I'm lucky enough to have lift/tools access but I did tons of different under the car work for years without a lift. This can be done fairly easy.

Obviously an extra set of hands or two will benefit you greatly. Probably more than a lift by yourself would.

Not a problem to do with jackstands. Just a bit more time.

I put in solid rear subframe bushings and a complete exhaust system (headers to mufflers) in my garage using jackstands and a floorjack.

I got the car up pretty far but didn't measure. I am not a little guy and I had no issues sliding around underneath it. I don't have a creeper and just slid around on the smooth concrete floor. I would have had enough room with a creeper too.

I jacked up the front end and placed jackstands underneath it. I then used some 2x6s (I had 4 of them nailed together laying around) to jack the car even higher and placed the jackstands at their max height (my floorjack didn't go high enough to max them out with the extra wood). I did the same to the rear and had the whole car off the ground. You have to remember to reverse the process in the front (raise the front with the 2x6s just enough to lower the jackstands down, then removed the wood and lower as normal down to the jackstands and then lower all the way after removing the stands). If you forget, you won't be able to get the 2x6s unwedged without raising the car again...

It was just time consuming. Obviously, you need to take the exhaust manifolds off while the car is on the ground or you will be standing on something and leaning way over to get to them after the car is in the air. I did it all myself and that made it interesting trying to get the headers into place but I did it with clothesline rope. If you have a helper, you can speed the process up big time.

The hardest part was getting the exhaust tips centered which I still need to tweak.

Good luck!

Agreed, it is no biggie. The only time it was tricky was moving the long tubes into position from the underside of the car.... We had my jackstands maxed out and it was just barely high enough to get the long tubes in place.

Should be no problem.

4 jack stands and a jack, tires all about 4 inches off the ground, no problem.

Yup, I've installed the full Kooks header/exhaust system & removed/replaced the rear center section on jack stands. It's not bad at all, though I've never had the luxury of a lift.

I dont have headers but i hope this helps. I installed the cat back borla exhaust on my car about 2 weeks ago using 2 jacks and a pair of jackstands. It was suppose to be done by 2 people but had no one to help me and i was anxious to hear that exhaust on my car so i couldnt wait. It was suppose to take anywhere from 1:30 - 2hrs thats what the instructions said but since i did it by myself it too about 3 - 3:30 hrs. Since i was recording some videos and taking pictures of before and after and the fact that i had it on jack stands it took me that long but Yes it can be done. I just lifted the whole back of the car as high as i could and did it with patience to make sure i did it right. After i finished i double checked it and started the car and thats it! I love the way the car sounds. Love the decel pop! Yes u can do it just take ur time and have a buddy help u! Good luck!!

Hope it is easier than a 4th gen. I did complete system using rack stands. It was a pain. Hope the 5th gen will be easier.

Installed my headers last weekend in the garage. It wasnt too bad other than the hard concrete! Get a rubber workout mat to lay on and then its a breeze!
