Where do you have your radar detector?

Trying to figure out where to put it - need a place where I can easily remove it when parked. In previous cars I've hardwired it, but there's no fusebox in passenger compartment.

Suction cup V-1 mount on upper left corner of windshield.

The mirror mounts are nice, but:

1. puts the detector display in plain view of anyone following you
2. cost TOO MUCH

Hey, this is not about location but I am looking to get a really high quality one. I searched the threads but could not locate that info.
Can anyone suggest a really good radar detector? I've only been on the forum since last month so I am not positive if this is a topic that cannot be discussed.
THnx

It is almost like a religious discussion, so beware.

I have a Valentine 1, which I consider to be the king of them all.

This is a company owned by Mike Valentine, who was the engineer at Cincinatti Microwave who was the driving force behind their "Escort" detectors, which were the best ones at that time. He left the company, and they went somewhat down hill without his engineering, but they may have bounced back in the last year or 2. Doubtless, people here will chime in to differ with me.

When Mike left CM, he started Valentine and began to make and sell the V-1. Over the years, he has added and/or improved features. For a price that varies, depending on what needs changing, you can send back your old V-1 and they will update it to the latest spec for you, so it never really becomes obsolete.

So far, Valentine is not making use of consumer reported police presence (Waze?) nor does it allow you to mark a location to ignore.

I still think Valentine is the best, but that others are close.

I have an escort and was wondering the same. I've thought about hard wire and mirror mount, but I can't feel any exposed wires. I really wish they had that cigarette lighter further up like my 5th gen lol

Ha ok, thanks for the info. I will start by looking into the Valentine.

MY only complaint about the V1 is the falsing. You can quiet that with the free apps if you are willing to take some time. That said, I've been pondering a 2nd V1 so I have one in both cars!

Is yours new enough to have the "Junk K" filter on it? I may send mine in of the upgrade but will wait for winter.

What are these free apps that can help with this?

Everywhere…

It's a Bel STiR, so the antenna is behind the front grill, speaker in the back seat, controls on the console, display right above the steering column, GPS receiver in the back window—list goes on. I used to life in a high petty-theft area, and after going through three RD's in two years, I said "enough is enough" and bought the hard-wired type.

BTW—love the sensitivity of a Val1, but I will NEVER own a non-GPS radar detector again.

I have the max360 [Escort] hard wired into the dome light with a fixture so it latches unto the rearview mirrors stem.. Works as it should.. Personally I think these are a bit of a sham, since cops are moving to Lasers, and once that catches you, you are ****ed.

My Escort is mounted to the windshield using a 3M Tape mount I found on Amazon. EZ on and off. I hate the suction cup things. They always fall off. Have it wired to the ceiling console as per many forum threads. The connector comes out of the headliner.

Here's the mount:

How long have you had it on, and has the car been parked in a sunny hot parking lot all day yet?

It has been on since early March. I park in direct sun 2 - 3 days a week. Probably 6 - 8 hours each time. Last week, Tuesday and Wednesday, the temp was over 90 when I got in the car at the end of the day. Mount is still tight.
