Single turbo/Th400 Build

Figured I’d make a post to show a little bit of the process as it comes along. Currently in the early stages of putting everything together, but I thought it would be nice if others could throw some ideas in as I’m doing it.

I’m switching it up from the Centri/tr6060 set up as I’m doing more drag racing now and don’t drive the car on the street very often anymore.

So far, I have picked up a core Th400 for $100. Going to drop that off by a local to have it built. Plan is RMVB and transbrake set up. I’ve already put it in the car to get measurements for the drive shaft and install the shifter. Went with a B&M pro stick magnum.

B&M shifter

After playing with that a little bit, I started the relocation of the fuse box. Currently in the process of finishing that up, I will post pictures as I go. I’m moving the fuse box to the glove box and the ECU to the cabin air filter box. This isn’t really necessary for a single turbo build but I wanted all the room in the engine bay.

All the room now.

Used a hole saw at the bottom of the cabin air filter box to route the wires.

Routing of wires through the firewall.

Fuse box in the glove box.

For the turbo set up, I will be using Hooker Ls Turbo manifolds. If anyone plans to use these, they will NOT clear the passenger factory engine mount. Driver side fit and clears great. Passenger side engine mount will need to be shaved down a little bit to clear. In my opinion, I didn’t remove too much material from the mount that I felt its integrity was lost. Also, if it’s not obvious, you will lose the factory A/C as the outlet is exactly where the compressor was. I wanted to find dimensions for the crossover pipe before ordering it as I don’t want it hanging below the car. Would be super straight forward to fabricate one if need be.

Besides the manifolds, I’m trying to decide what turbo to run. Currently considering the Precision LS 76/75 .96AR or the Precision PT88/84 1.08AR. My goals for the build right now is 800-900whp. The smaller turbo would most likely be tapped out for power not leaving any room to grow, but would light up a little bit faster. The larger would give me room to grow, but may not be the most efficient. Open for discussion on this, I would like to hear some feedback from anyone that’s in this range.

For fueling I already have a Zl1 pump, and 72# injectors. Also trying to decide between an Aux pump kit or spending the money and going with a nice Dual/Tripple set up. I trap doored the spot above the pump, so it wouldn’t be very difficult to drop in a different one.

Yeah, looks great. Thanks for the pics. I’m going to have to hit you up when I relocate my fuse box.

Go with bigger injectors and fuel delivery. The aux pump will be near or at its limits. If you want room to grow do the triple pump now and bigger injectors now. Fuel supply limits will determine where your power limits are.
The build looks great. Nice work.

I will try to include more pictures as I wrap up the wiring! It’s a rats nest at the moment as I’m re routing all of the engine harness and separating the transmission/02 sensors portion of the harness haha

I might have missed it somewhere but what fuel do you plan to run?

I'd be putting something with a bigger turbine wheel on it. Check out the s491/104 from forced inductions. Good luck!

Awesome, how are you liking it? I was considering going that route, but it’s hard to beat the price of a th400.

Previously I was running 93 only, however it’s annoying because I only have 3 pumps local to me that have it. May change it up and go 91/e85 and throw in a flex fuel sensor.
