I was in the same boat, narrowing the field to a 427 or a ZL-1. I like them both, although I like the newness of the Camaro's form over the oldness of the C6 design.

The thing about the 427 is they won't be around for long. You have to get one now or never, at least if you want a new one.

I tried to imagine which one I'd be more enthused about getting into each morning. I figured I'd get bored with the 427's bland looks (and interior) before I lost my zeal for the ZL-1. Also I knew it would always be in the back of my mind, "Maybe I should have gotten the ZL-1."

I kind of like having the less expensive car. I don't worry about it as much when I park it or in traffic. So far I have not been thinking "Maybe I should've gotten the 427." The Camaro is pretty satisfying. Of course I haven't driven the 427. You should probably start with that.

I drove the Grand Sport, essentially the base Corvette. There's no comparison there either. The GS is a pretty boring drive.

The ZL-1 performance goals were to meet or exceed the Z06, not the base, according the Oppenheiser videos.

Really ????

OP.......the 427 Vert, especially the 60th Anniv Edition, is a very special car. I'd love to add one to the garage with my 06 C6 Z06

427 vert hands down if you don't need a back seat. the 427 has the mag ride as well, more perfromance, proably less issues with the top unless all the stuff I read was fixed.

Not to mention getting better price ont he 427 will be easier and availibily is better right now.

Now if you ever need a back seat or just need more practicalilty then ZL1 vert hands down.

Another thing to consider is.... The Camaro family is very big... Just look how CamaroFest 3 turned out... I've never heard of a Corvette Fest... I enjoyed Camarofest 3 and look forward to CF4.... I'm sure Corvette's have their gatherings.. but I'd bet money, none of them will come close to Camarofest....Also, camaro5.com is probably the largest forum out there....

Buying a corvette is like joining a club. every other driver waves you, bla bla. Huge following, tons of clubs. There is more of what you talking about for the corvette than the camaro IMO.

That is not my deal though. I buy cars to drive them not join clubs and stuff like that. My trophy husbands of america club takes up too much of my time as it is.

Holy crap .......you've got to be kidding me !!!!!

Corvettes at Carlyle was just this past weekend.

The Corvette Corral at the ALMS races is jammed pack full of Corvette's during the entire weekend of racing.

The Corvette Bash at the plant in Bowling Green ....nothing needs to be said there.

I could go on and on with the regional stuff, but to say the Corvette faithful is a very big and active family would be a complete understatement.

I love my Camaro's , but the family of Corvette owners goes way beyond anything the Camaro family has.

Google these events and look at the picture threads.
Nuff said.

I wouldn't be suprised if Carlyle didn't have more attendance in one day, than all the CamaroFest event days put together.

Agreed. I live 30-40 minutes from Carlisle, PA. The town is at the apex of what car, truck and bike shows want to be. GM Nationals, Ford Nationals, Mopar Nationals, Camaro Nationals, Corvette Nationals, Truck Nationals, Bike Week, etc., etc., etc.. If you think you've been to a big show before...you're sadly mistaken. You've obviously never been to Carlisle before! P.S. If you've never heard of the East Coast Hot Rod Nationals held in York, PA every year (1st weekend in June), you're missing out again! 4,000-5,000 cars and trucks every time. Central, PA=King of Car, Truck and Bike Shows! P.P.S. York, PA Bike Week-Last weekend in September every year. Home of the Harley Davidson Plant!

Face it, corvettes are the king of the american hot rods ,and the 427 is nothing short of amazing. I love the fact that you don't have to get that god awful looking anniversary edition to get one. I was at Carlisle last friday and Kerbeck had two with hudge discounts. If I was buying a vette, that's where it would be. I don't think anyone else in the country can offer a better deal on a Corvette. OP, if I were you I would check them out. I would be willing to bet that you could get exactly what you want without ordering at a great price.
They end up not costing much more than a ZL1, and they will blow the doors off one too.

I had to laugh at the guy that posted that a ZL1 was designed to run with a Z06. If that was the case, GM needs to go back to the drawing board. I've seen them run in the high 10's with nothing more than DR's. A ZL1 will never do that.
