Carb Cleaner and MPFI Engine

Hey Everyone,
I was reading about doing a tune up on your car, and the OP said that if you use Carb Cleaner with the FI engines that it will remove a protective coating in the engine? Since the engine being MPFI, once I read that my reaction was O_O When I picked up my car, it had been sitting for several years so I sprayed a lot of carb cleaner and sprayed out a bunch of dirt.

I just wanted to see if this could possibly cause problems in the future.

I'm not sure what you call Carb cleaner.

If you are talking that fuel injection cleaner crap that they sell in the parts store that you dump in your tank and it is supposed to clean your fuel injectors - well - you already know my opinion on that one.

The Mass Airflow Sensor will need to be cleaned out from time to time and they make a special cleaner for doing that. In the days before the special cleaner, all we used was carb cleaner and I don't know of anyone that had any problems as long as they only used enough to clean the port and did not dump a gallon down inside of the intake manifold.

Does this answer your question?
