Is a Camaro SS better than a C5?
I often feel as though I'm driving a 4th generation Corvette when I'm driving my SS, then I have to remind myself I'm in a way better car than a C4. It's been a while since I had a car that had any power, I gave up on cars a decade ago, and I have no C5 experience.
Is the SS better than a standard C5? You really don't know what you are getting into until you own something and spend some time with it, so I thought I'd ask some people that have experience with both cars.

But the C5 Corvette is a much lighter car, and will run circles around any stock SS Camaro. My '96 Corvette (LT4 Engine) will outrun my '11 L99 (automatic) Camaro. Mostly because it is a much smaller, lighter car. It also gets way better fuel mileage than the Camaro.

My uncle owns a C5. Granted, it's nowhere near stock at this point but when it was stock, I'd definitely give him the edge in terms of power. Tehcnology though goes to the Camaro

Handles, stops better, and faster. Sounds like base C5 wins....Z06 rules of course.
Starting to wonder if I'm going in the right direction. I could have a Corvette sitting in my garage right now, instead I have a 2012 SS with 1000 miles on it and any Corvette I would get at this point in my life would certainly be a used car.

I'm at the same cross roads. I can afford either a used Vette (C6) or a new 1LE Camaro SS. Right now the 1LE is winning because it has a back seat and I have a wife and kid. Part of my deal though is if I go Vette it has got to be a Grand Sport. I'm waiting to see the reception the C7 gets I'm kind of hoping the fervor floods the market with some C6's.

Stock SS doesn't compare. I race with a guy that has a z06 c5 and he is an experienced driver. My modded SS easily hangs with him, but I have twice the money in mine than he does. If I could do it over I would buy a vette.

1/4 C5 non ZO6 vs LS3 Camaro would be a very close race maybe give the edge to the SS. Everything else like on a road course Vette wins.

The chassis engineering of a C5 Vette is still superior to the gen 5 SS.

When I bought my car, I was debating between a C6 and the SS. The cars would not be a daily driver, so practicality is no issue.
I ended up going with the SS because of style. I like the muscle-car look of the Camaro. It's almost like the weight-lifter of cars. Not the lightest or more nimble, but sure looks really tough. |

I don't care for the c5's and my camaro can beat a lot of them. But c6'd are a different story. I find myself thinking about getting a c6 z06 all the time
