I personally wouldn't, despite the performance factors.

Here's something that the ZL1 doesn't have:

I to was also on the fence. I had a chance to drive a ZL1 recently. It was really nice, but it did lack that intangible bad ass factor. It did drive smoother, but the roads on which I drive are pretty good so not really a factor. My Z/28 is also a fun weekend toy so the rougher ride is no big deal. I love the raw factor the Z/28 gives you. Also love the rare factor and of course the NA 427. Are there faster more technologically advanced cars out there to include the ZL1? Yes, but rare factor CCB brakes and 427 do it for me. Plus I prefer the body style of the 5th gen. Just my opinion. One doesn't accidentally end up with a Z/28 in the garage. You have to be a car nut/enthusiast and appreciate the Z/28 for what it is. Z/28 sounds way better to. The ZL1 is just the newest latest greatest. When the new one comes out no one will care about the current one. I think the Z/28 does not share that fate with the ZL1.
Also I've had my Z/28 for about 8 months now. I bought it with 200 miles on it and got a steal of a deal. Private party so I didn't have to pay tax. It is still worth what I paid for it if not more 8 months later.
I figure I got a new ZL1 I'd pay tax, do clear clear bra and tint. I'd be in roughly 70k and it would be worth 55k in a few months. 15k ish loss in a few months. No thanks.

Did you buy a white Z/28 from a local in Vegas named John? Just seeing if it's a small world.

Yeah, it was awhile ago.

Glad to see you stuck with the Z/28. Local dealer here just got a new ZL1 1LE in and it's cool, just not Z/28 cool.

I could have bought a new ZL/1 but, I always wanted to own a Z/28 from way back in the sixties. When I saw my car come up for sale I was torn between the two choices. I had to really search within on what I really wanted or expected from the next car. Either car was not going to be a daily driver.

The next car experience had to give me that thrill of acceleration and handling, while also having that big muscle car sound and feel. The fact my car had already been modified played heavily on my decision and the price was hard to beat. But, I also had to question the creature comforts I would be missing in the new ZL/1. I think everyone eventually gets used to the power of their car and some decide to add even more. Most of us would agree having more power is an addiction.

That leaves us with deciding if the creature comforts can overcome the thrill of the rawness that comes with that LS7 and being NA. The fact the LS7 is NA also helped make my decision. And so the question of which one is right for you can only be decided if you really question your inner self on what's important to YOU.

I have owned 2 different 69 Z/28s since 1978 still own 1, when they announced they were going to make another Z/28 I knew I wanted one but sticker shock cooled that down, it was way out of my league but still didn't stop the want for one.
then a weird turn of events and then Pow I own a Zl1! pleased because the car is awesome! the ride, the handling, the power! yes I still want a Z but I'll live with what I got
I dont think either is a bad choice by any means but rarity is just that

I own a 15 1le and my brother has a 17 zl1. I absolutely love my 1le but It could use more power. The zl1 is just a rocket and with the interior you feel even faster due to it being low and fighter jet like. No question the zl1 is faster esp with the 10 speed and the ride is really good. That being said I would get the Z28. I love the old school feel of my 1le and can only imagine the Z ups that considerably!! Mr brothers zl1 is a great looking car but the Z28 is just my favorite looking modern Camaro. My local dealer had two. One red hot and the other was black. That black z was the best damn looking camaro. Just plain mean!!

I did the 15 Z/28 for 18 ZL1 1LE. Would do it again and again. The only thing the Z/28 has that the ZL1 1LE doesn’t is CCBS. Other than that it’s game over ZL1 1LE wins.

What are you doing slumming over here? Lol.

Sorry man, we were Z/28 brethren and all, but no way ZL1 1LE wins. Faster and more advanced, but dat ass! Seriously, it's a bad ass car, but it just doesn't have the "it" factor of the Z/28.

Did you order yours? If so how long did it take to get?
