Will a 40 or 45 series tire fit on a ZL1?

I don't even have my car yet but am looking in to tire options. I've never been a fan of low profile tires....had some 35 series on a car and was always getting flat tires or bent rims.

Will a taller tire fit on a ZL1 with no modifications? I'll be using the stock rims and don't want to change anything else on the car. Anybody successful in putting a taller tire on their car?

Thanks, Doug

Patience is a virtue

Hi Doug,

Whoa, wait a minute. You don't even have the car yet? Get the car and drive it and learn to drive it as it is special. Just remember you can get into trouble quickly with this car due to the power! I think you'll be happy with them. I'm not trying to be a jerk but if you are bending wheels and getting flats either the roads are really bad or you aren't looking out for them and driving over them incorrectly also known as too fast. I have a friend with a Mini Cooper with the same history as yours.

You might be right about the too fast and not looking out for them. It was on the wife's car and not mine. This was just on highway 101 in Northern California so the roads weren't particularly bad.

I'll be careful with the new car but know that the wife will also get to drive it on occasion so I'd like a little more rubber between the rims and the road.

I'm not even finding any choices for a 40 or 45 series tires. I've read the threads about wider tires but the 315's are only .3 inches taller.

Please keep in mind that the profile series is just a percentage of the section width, its not a measure of the actual height of the sidewall. A 305/35 (like on the rear of the ZL1) actually has about a 1/4 inch more sidewall than a 205/50 tire does. Because they are so wide, roughly 1 foot, you still end up with over 4 inches of sidewall on the ZL1.

you could go 315/35 rear and 275/40 front, that will give you the same height all around and the same height as a stock SS

I know what he was talking about, I told him what tires he could run to gain ride height, and sidewall, I don't see where you got I thought this wasn't for a ZL1 I stated those sizes would be the same height as a stock SS's tires.

That sounds like the best combo so far. Thanks for the input.
