exhaust question

Does anyone know if the black plate below the factory exhaust is necessary? I just put Borla cat back exhaust on and drove it and after awhile it must have started to sag a bit and it rubs vibrates on that plate. I was wondering if I need it and if it serves a function or if I can just take it off. I know I can readjust the exhaust also but just wondering about this. I have a hoist in my shop so it really isn't a big deal.

I adjusted it and it is fine now but I am still wondering about the black plate under the car. Is it necessary or can it be removed?

Not sure how "necessary" it is but GM doesn't spend money making parts for a new model when there isn't a purpose for it...It's there for a reason and it's not just to keep your exhaust pipes from falling on the ground.

Just an FYI, there is already a company making an upgraded version of that part: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45046

Sounds great. no drone at all up to 75, but with the cruise on and in sixth gear when it starts to go up a hill it has a little drone. Not that bad at all. It is what I was looking for in sound and it is simple to put on. I had everything mounted free of touching anything and drove it 30 miles and it must have shifted a bit, just put it on the hoist and readjusted and retightened everything up, it is just fine now. My only complaint is I bought the Borla aggressive exhaust kit for the Camaro with ground fx and it has no tips on it at all. I will put something on it. The pipes look a little small in the diffuser. Even on the stock diffuser as I just put my gfx on last night.

Why would you want to remove it ?..................

It's there to help keep the under side more rigid, helps tie the right to the left.

I was thinking about removing it because it is so cheap. I was thinking of fabricating my own but I see BMR already has it. I was only going to have it off for a short time untill I made one. Just didn't know the importance of having the piece off for a short time. I know it ties the car together, right to left and stiffens it up but why isn't it more rigid? I think it would be way better with BMR's design.

Is it possible to have different mufflers welded on? The last person I talked to said there isn't enough room. What's the best thing to do to give my V6 a little more rumble without decreasing gas mileage or voiding the warrenty?
