Spring Loaded Cigarette Lighter Cover Loose?

I use the cigarette lighter for my radar detector, and the other day I noticed that it would not return to the closed position anymore unless I pushed it down. Seems like the tiny little spring in the hinge is loose or has lost it's recoil.

Anyone else with this problem?

thanks

One option, which you may or may not like. Get the "smokers kit" It comes with a different socket and bezel and has no cap (the lighter goes in there if you don't have it out for powering something), so no loose cap.

Mine is doing the same. Didn't really look to see what the problem is yet. I use it for my cell phone charger.

if they ordered a replacement cap/bezel assembly, it will still probably require a bit of disassembly to install yourself (if it's under warranty I suppose they would do it free if you want to leave your car). I used a pair of needle nose pliers, a small screwdriver, and my hands.

1 - using special trim tool (called your fingernails by us do it yourselfers) pry up the rear edge of the shift cover bezel.
2 - lift the bezel up and out, you will have to disconnect the TC / power plug cable (plug on the panel edge closest to the dash). If it's an automatic you need to pull it out of park to get clearance.
3 - Once the panel is out, you unplug the power socket power feed from the harness and remove the wire routing hold down. (the small flat screwdriver and pliers helped here in releasing clips)
4 - remove the power plug. 2 clips on the bezel assemble hold it in place, they need to be spread and the socket pushed up through the bezel.
5 - the bezel assembly with cap now just slide out.

Installation is the reverse.

Mine rattles sometimes and it will probably break sooner or later. I wonder if the cover can be replaced with the smokers version.

Having this problem now. I'd like to replace the lid with the same lid. But wonder what it would cost.

Bump from the dead.

I'd like to bring this thread back to life too.

Same issue here; Based on the pic. looks like perhaps part of the pin broke off and is jammed in the lid (the little hole where the pin link up to the lid). Mine has done the same but on the other side so I could not actually see it clearly.

Does anyone know the part # for the replacement, also is it any better than the original to 'resolve' the problem to begin with. Seems to me it will break again if you actually use it again.
