Carbon Fiber bowtie -- am I crazy, or?
I recently ordered a hydro-dipped 'carbon fiber' look rear bowtie from a vendor on the site and received it as promised. However, I've got a couple of concerns and I am trying to figure out if I am just being nit-picky. For posterity's sake, I am attaching two pictures I took this AM as well as the 'stock' photo provided by the vendor.
Before anyone asks, I specifically ordered it with the chrome ring as opposed to the 'hydro-dipped' for contrast's sake. -There is a decent amount of ‘over-spray’ (for lack of a better word) where it appears the chrome ring was not properly taped off. This is hard to see from a distance, but is apparent up close. -The photo on thewebsite depicts a ‘carbon fiber weave’ pattern that runs across the surface of the bow-tie at approximately 90* -- but the one I received is about 20* off cant, so the ‘weave’ pattern runs at a pretty steep angle across the surface. The angle of the ‘weave’ can be viewed in the first picture, and the ‘overspray’ is more prominently visible in the 2nd. If you compare the item received to the stock photo, you can see that the angle on the stock photo is pretty close to 90*. Like I said, I’m not sure how much of this is me being nit-picky – but I plan to use the item for car shows and sometimes the little details make a big difference.I apologize for the glare, but I haven't removed from the package so that I can return. The vendor has told me they see nothing wrong -- offered to refund me $20 (of $65 purchase price) or I can ship it back (I assume at my expense) for a refund. I am trying to figure out whether I am nit-picking or if this would be acceptable to you guys? I am not naming the vendor as they have been great and I do not want to in any way sour anyone's opinion of them or make someone hesitate to buy one.

That's my thought -- but I also kind of feel like a d-bag for doing that to the vendor, since it's a one-off item. I hate to cost them $$$ because I'm not happy with it when 9/10 people might think it's okay. I guess I will probably just return.

No I think you are in the right on this one, if it doesn't look like advertised then it's misrepresentation. Besides the number one rule should be " the customer is always right".
And not that it really matters, I don't like it either lol. The skewing of the pattern really changes the overall look! Describe your issues and ask for an exchange, that's fair. |

Thanks for the input. I am struggling with the idea that I should have to pay shipping to send it back. I suppose we will see what the vendor says. According to them, they can't see the problem. I don't know how it's that easy to miss.

Show room quality you are the best judge...I do not think you would be comfortable putting it on the car.

Man, I used to play with my bowtie and tried to make it AKA carbon fiber.. my experiment was so-so but quality was not that bad no offence but those look like they've been produced in the dark garage..
return them back and name the vendor over here |

I also have a 9 month old kid so the Camaro budget is limited. :( I may put this on the wish list.

I did my rear Bowtie with carbon fiber style tape. Very inexpensive and still looks good after two years. Just another option that may fit your budget.

I would use the 3M carbon vinyl over dipping. Dipped just looks so cheesy. The vinyl looks a lot closer to CF and it's much cheaper
