Firewall Passthrough Found...Don't Drill!

I was tinkering around today to figure out some wire runs (Inspired by Wizzer)and I found this firewall pass through on the driver's side today. I have the 2LT, not sure if this is present on the other models. Bear in mind I am a total novice who has never done any of this before so I think I just got lucky:

1-From the engine compartment look up and over where the 12V cable comes into the engine compartment from the battery(The red cable wrapped in the white tape is the 12V cable) Notice the hole above it in the picture. It's pretty tough to actually see because it's up so high. I took the pictures with my cell phone tuucked way in there.

A zoomed out view to better orient you. The "wire" I'm holding in my fingers higher than the red 12V cable is actually my snake/fishing cable coming out from inside the car.(I have no idea what the corrugated tube thingy holds)

2-This is the inside view under the driver's side where the 12V power cable goes through from the inside of the car to the engine compartment.(I had to lie down upside down on the driver's seat in order to find this) After pulling back on the soft liner(There was one plastic cap I unscrewed to make removal easier) way up high over where the left foot rest thingy is you'll find a black rubber plug/fill-in thingy. Pull that out and Voila...the hole now pictured just above the red power cable will pass right through to the hole inside the engine compartment. No drilling needed(too bad considering I'm a dentist)

I hope I explained this clearly enough. If not just let me know and I'll try to take better pics or whatever, but now you know...no drilling required. (It goes without saying that grommits should be installed to avoid cutting the wires on the sheet metal).

Nice find - I can see/feel the same hole on my 1SS just above the Red Battery Cable. There is a plug on the engine side as well.

Wow. There was no plug on the engine side on my 2LT. Maybe it was another cost saving factor for GM on later production cars. I was in the 84K range.

Did you check to see if there was the one that I discovered under the cowl on the passenger side?

Nice job. I'm sure I'll be running something through that also. Never can have enough holes to fill I always say.

Look under your steering wheel and up where the main battery cable comes in. He took the picture of this area with the plastic plug out, which was the last picture in the series.

There is a similar plug on the passenger side under the cowl.
