I might have to stop by and finally meet you in person.

I would like that.

Ppirro returns to Lackland on Thursday to begin his basic training. We are returning an amazing Mal to them.

That has to give you mixed emotions. On one hand, you're proud of the dog he has become. On the other, he's leaving your home. Are you planning on taking in another puppy?

You are a handler so you have experienced what we are going through.

We decided to foster for the Military Working Dog (MWD) Program at Lackland because of two rather special EODs and our discussions with other current and former military about the value of MWDs. Fostering a future MWD is our way of thanking all those that have served and protecting those on active duty in harms way.

Ppirro is part of our family. In a very small way, we are experiencing what parents and relatives feel when they send a son or daughter off to boot camp. It is a valuable lesson for our family. The only way a family can make this commitment is to believe deeply in the mission. Our Belgian Malinois was named on base. Ppirro is Greek for red hair or so I am told. We nicknamed him Ppirro the Hero. For the next two days, Ppirro is still ours. At 1300 hours Thursday, Ppirro will be on base at Lackland.

We have made it clear to the program that should he not make it through the program we want him back. If at any time in the future Ppirro were to need a civilian home he has one with us. When he graduates to a handler, that handler will be getting the Z/28 of Mals. We pray that those Ppirro serves return from deployment safely.

For those of you that don't know first hand how valuable MWDs are in the field take a few minutes and watch this video.

We will take another Mal in as long as the eight week old puppy is another extreme drive fearless Alpha that thinks he is the baddest axx dog on the planet. We foster MWD Warriors for the US Military in our home.

DOD MWD Page

Remind me of that at 1330 on Thursday.

Well said, Pete.

He thinks he's the baddest a** dog on the planet...as a Mal, he just may be the baddest a** dog on the planet!

I have been attending events like this for more years than I care to remember and have been rained out once. If everyone brings an umbrella, we won't need them ;-)
