Trunnion failure

Just finished diagnosing the noise from the car today. #7 intake rocker trunnion bearing failure. Yes, it was the Comp trunnion upgrade kit with about 25k on it. What reliable options are out there? The Smith Brothers bushing kit on the BTR website look pretty good to me. I am NOT going back with more bearings. Just a bomb waiting to go off in my opinion.

I went with the C.H.E trunnion bushing kit. It was a little more expensive ~$200 but I don’t recall seeing the Smith Brothers kit until recently. Looks good though.

I've got a slightly off thump from my passenger side valve cover... might have found my winter project! Much easier than I thought it would be to install.

We've been using the Straub trunnion kit for the last two years with great results.

Finished the valve train tear down today and found 3 more bearings with slop in them. Found a new set of rockers with the bushing kit already installed from Steve Morris Engines. Nothing against the BTR trunnion kit, but as I stated, I will not go back with a bearing. Now, my rockers have 25k on them and that may be the service life limit. My builder has stated that they have see very few failures from the Comp trunnion kit. That may be true; and I have no reason to doubt them; but I feel I could have lost my engine, and I should do everything possible to avoid more problems.

$200 for the CHE trunnion kit. if you are paying someone to do it, probably about 3 hours in labor for installing the trunnion kit. If the rockers are chewed and metal shaving in your oil and through the bearings you are possibly looking at an engine rebuild. Might want to drop the pan to clean out the roller bearings, or try a strong magnet on the pan.
