Loud click noise on rear driver side

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has had this problem on a 2013 1LE. There are a number of posts I've read already about clicking noises but they all relate to a problems on the 2010 SS wheel hub washer, not the 2013 1LE (only done 8000 miles from new, diff fluid changed every year).

I don't track the car and to date it's been a bit of a garage queen, the clicking noise I'm getting is coming from the drivers side rear wheel or in that general area, might be the diff but I dont think so. It's a single click noise and it happens at speeds between 20mph and 40mph, anything faster and the click goes away.

90% of the time it happens as I lift the clutch pedal as power is being transferred to the rear, but it can also happen randomly at speeds mentioned above.

The only other time I can replicate it 100% of the time is when I go forwards and backwards from stationary, the car has to either be in 1st or reverse, I can't replicate it by rolling the car forwards or backwards.

I had the diff fluid changed last weekend so I'm just hoping it's not that, the diff fluid was full and all 946ml plus the additive was used, both ACDelco parts were used, #88900401 # 88900330.

Looking at the possibility of a faulty CV joint or wheel bearing but lots of conflicting information about what the correct part numbers are. Using the VIN search on a parts dealer site doesn't list any part numbers for the 1LE. I'm in the UK so there's no dealer support here, I'm on my own to get the correct part and fix it myself.

Could anyone point me in the right direction for what parts I might need to replace the 1LE wheel bearing, 1LE drivers side axle half shaft, seal protection tool and any one-time use bolts or washers? I'm a bit nervous doing whilst having to ship any missing parts across the atlantic.

Here's a video:

From the video it “appears” to only happen after she lets off the brake and then moves in the direction of the gear (fwd or bkwd). Have you tried jacking up the car, removing the rear wheel, braking, releasing and visually inspecting what’s going on with the caliper? I wonder if it’s not releasing for some reason. What if you remove the pad, clean the calipers, add some grease, reassemble. Does it continue?

I was going to say I think it’s the brakes also . Sounds like a caliper sticking

Thanks for the replies so far, it doesn't appear to be a stuck caliper because I can replicate the issue without braking.

I'm going to purchase a new wheel 'hub and bearing' and see if that fixes it.

I'm unsure which part number I need, ZL1 registry is showing the 2013 1LE as having ZL1 wheel hubs and lots of people on Camaro5 are saying that the 1LE has the same wheel hub assembly as the ZL1. Part number 25954415.

My dealer is saying that the 1LE wheel assembly is not the same as the ZL1 and is also priced $100 cheaper than the ZL1 assembly. Do I trust the dealer or do I pay the extra and go with advice on here. Dealer says the 1LE wheel hub assembly is part number 23216847.

It will be an expensive mistake for me to ship it back to the United States.

I’m currently waiting 2 weeks to have a new axle nuts and axle washers sent over to the UK for my 2013 1LE. I’m hoping that will fix it.

I met with a few other Camaro owners at the weekend and two of their cars (both 2010) are also making the same clicking noise.

I’m not sure why I’m having the problem on a 2013, there’s lots of reports of this happening on the 2010 model only. I’m guessing GM fixed the problem at the factory from 2011 onwards.

I ditched the idea of replacing the wheel hub for the moment, I figured it best to start replacing cheaper parts first.

I’ll report back when I’ve installed the nut and washer. Gonna be a few weeks yet though.

Any updates?

I'm also having the same issue on my '15 and my dealer hasn't figured it out yet.

Edit: Dealer replaced driver side axle (Part number: 22806795). Fixed the issue for me.

Hi 1LEVIL,

That’s great news, sorry I haven’t seen this message sooner!

Was it the same noise for sure?

I ordered the wrong axle nuts so I’m still waiting for parts to arrive in England. I’ve read loads about the thrust washer so that was going to be my first attempt at fixing it. But I’m not sure that the thrust washer fits any other year apart from the 2010 SS. I’ll find out when I take the hub off I guess.

Was the part number 22806795 the drivers side axle specifically for the 1LE?

Thanks,

Peter

Hey Pete

Yes, mine sounded just like how yours does. Could replicate it driving back and forth just like in your video.

Unfortunately, the passenger side wheel started making the same noise as well and I just had that axle replaced too.. No more clicking after.

Yes, the 1LE's axle part numbers are:

1LE Left Axle - 22806795
1LE Right Axle - 22806796

Jb

I'm hearing this click noise now too so probably the right rear axle. Question is, is this doing any damage of just a noise problem until fixed?

My dealer said it was normal (guess they didn't want to cover the repair, LOL).
