LS3 Launch Tips

I pulled out onto a clean Farm to Market, came to a stop, turned TC and SC off (held the switch down for 7 seconds), reved her up to 3000 or so and dumped the clutch as I put my toes in it. I learned that I can in fact "light 'em up" and lay a couple of black streaks about as far as I care to.

What I'd really like to know is a good procedure for a fully manual launch. I'm not interested in smoking the tires...just going forward as quickly as possible. Ya'll have been gr8 about the automatic and the competition mode but I'd sure appreciate some pointers on how best to do it with all the aids off.

Have you not tried to use launch control?

Are you talking about a launch at the strip?

No...no launch control. And yes, at the strip with an LS3.

Need to ease it out of first can't just hit it off the line you'll just spin the tires

I have read several times that full manual launch is faster than the Competitive Mode Launch. Can we get specific about a full manual launch?

Don't use it. However my Maro is on the fast list at 12.35 @ 113 mph. Best 60' 1.87 I rev it it up to about 3500 and slide clutch while pressing throtle pedal to the floor. I using 305 Nitto's DR's and they spin a bit but that helps keep the rpm's up. TC OFF! TCI line lock and MSD 2 step soon to be installed.

Thanks mercuryman96, that's exactly the specific tips I was hoping to get. Do you turn the SC off as well? I'm not sure what a TCI line lock or a MSD 2 step is...I'm pretty much a newbie. Just don't want to embarrass myself the first time I get it to a track.

Oh. I might get flamed for that piece of advice, but that's how I do it. I believe my time slips speak for them self.

Line lock allows you apply the front brake only during burn out and hold the car from rolling on the start line. Which is ativated with a botton taped to my emerg brake handle (cause I take it out when i am not at the strip). 2 step is a adjustable rev limiter for the start line so you don't have to watch the tach.

The consensus advice I've gotten is essentially turn everything off (hold button for 8 seconds), launch from around 2500 rpm and slip the :&:#@ out of the clutch to control wheel spin.

I've tried every driveline-safe method of launching there is and couldn't go better than a 13.7. With everything on, I go consistent 14.2's, launch control gives me 14.0's, and everything off I either hop if the rpms are too high, spin most of the time or bog if they're too low and average 13.8's. The shock of a clutch dump is too much for the tires/suspension. Next time out I'm getting nose plugs for the clutch smell and I'm roasting my poor clutch.

Good luck, and report back!

Basically you have to feather the clutch out and the gas in. It'll be different for every driving surface. Can't sidestep unadulterated 350 ft/lbs of torque
