Tonneau Cover Blues

Having no idea that my $33K convertible wouldn't come with a tonneau cover, and after being led to believe it had one by the sales manager, I was quite disappointed to find out that the item is only standard equipment on the 2LT and SS models.

I mean come on Chevrolet, it's still a freaking +$30K vehicle, what do you mean it doesn't come standard? I know I've seen many complaints about the fit and function of the tonneau cover, but I still want one and I'm not about to waste nearly $500 for one! (Heck that's my exhaust or CAI!!)

I placed a complaint with GM this past Tuesday and the district rep finally called today! She said she was going to contact the selling dealer and she would be in touch with me on Monday. She also said perhaps they could work some sort of discount! LOL I was quick to inform her that I have no interest in a discount and do not plan to pay for it when I strongly feel that it should be standard equipment, after all, it is a convertible so why should I have to purchase a cover for it? She had no response. :(

I can understand the frustration since you were led to believe it would come with one. But it's on you to make sure you know what you are spending 30+ k on. It's clear on chevy's website.

LOL yeah, I guess when I specifically ask the sales manager about it and didn't ask to physically see it, I should have done more research and instead bought a Toyota! LOL

Had a Toyota, don't want another. Doesn't even come close in comparison. If you are serious about the Toyota trade for it. Use camaros are getting top dollar! Can't say the same for toyotas.

Sorry about that, I checked into it first. One can not make assumptions. I hope they give you a good discount... I would take it. Is it worth $500? Not a chance. I hope there is an aftermarket version some day. My company could make one but it would take about 20,000 units to break even on mold costs.

Think of it this way. Standard on the LT or SS. Its built into the cost. You might have saved $500 if it flew off!

Nutbutt - No, I was just joking, the first poster (dbprecision) has a Toyota listed as their vehicle. I wouldn't dare trade this baby for nothing else! It reminds me so much of my 67 Camaro from 35 years ago.

Great points though, had it come standard issue, I'm sure the cost would have been covered in the overall price and would have only been more upset when it blew off going down the highway. LOL

True, nothing is free but my point is that IMO, this should be standard equipment no matter what the model, IMHO.

Ambient, I completely agree with you.....it is not worth $500, $50 maybe. The glue is already coming undone on mine & I only use it once in a blue moon. If they wantedit worth $500, it should be seam stitched & not glued.
Hers, if they don't do freebee, see if they will discount it to $50. Surely they are still making a profit on the deal lol!

Hope you can work something out as you were given bad info by the manager. They should try to make it up to you.

The info was right out there on the Chevy website detailing what is or isn't included with each trim, option or model. I never expect a salesman to know every detail about every option on every car he or she sells as I think that's an unrealistic expection given the possible number of combinations. Its also my money so I'll take the time to research and know exactly what I'm buying. I can understand your disappointment but that's why its all in print so you know what you're getting.

The cost of the car has nothing to do with whether or not it includes an accessory. There are plenty of $70k+ cars that still have little things you can choose to purchase or not. The tonneau cover is simply not a required accessory. I've only had mine on a couple of times.

That said, if you were told it came with one, it kinda sucks that you didn't get it. However, we all know that when you buy a car, when you leave, you get what you drive off with plus whatever is on the We Owe You, and not a dang thing more.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not you really want it. It doesn't sound like you're going to get it for free. So if you really want one, I bet you could get them to sell it to you at cost. I do like mine, even though I've only used it a couple of times. When you really want to show off the car, it helps finish the look.

As for the bad fit, I have no clue what people are talking about. Mine fits fine, and is as snug as it could possibly be. It's never fluttered a millimeter, even at 80 mph down the highway. I think there were a number of people who didn't have the clips installed on the car (either at all, or at least correctly), and just tucked it in without fastening it. There may be others who have the clips, but failed to tuck it in all the way around after clipping it in.

Whatever the case, mine's rock solid.

Tough crowd! I'll remember the flame retardant suit if I ever decide to post here in the future...lol

I'm not stupid...had I not specifically ask about the item, yeah, ok, it's on me. However, when I ask the "Sales Manager," who initially showed us the car because when we arrived the salesperson was still with another client, he shouldn't have answered "yes" if he wasn't sure. For that I do hold him accountable. Had I known otherwise I could have potential negotiated a deal for the item to be included with the car! Just as I successfully negotiated the Line-X liner for my new truck purchased the same evening.

Baba, thanks for providing the links and part numbers!
