Engine Cover

I started working on the Engine Cover yesterday as the Red really does not look good with IOM.

Step one was to paint the cover in silver and put 5 coats of clear.

Then next step was to apply the IOM base coat and then clear coat it.

Tomorrow I will wet sand the tops of all the letters to bring out the silver and then apply 5 more coats of clear.

Looks great

Couldn't agree more with the red cover and the IOM car!! Will be addressing that too with my IOM very soon! I'm thinking black cover with silver lettering! Picking up my car from dealer tomorrow

Can't wait too see your pictures after the final step

I have an IOM too, and cannot understand why they used a red engine cover on the car. Where did you get your IOM pain? Do they sell it in an aerosol can? Is it a dead match?

My best friend owns a bodyshop and I am working at his shop. The paint is mixed on-site and is a perfect match. I did all the prep work and his painter shot it for me.

That will look great. Should have been a factory option!

That looks great, can't wait to see the finished product! You've got some skills. I am planning to send mine off to get painted since I do not have any painting skills.

I didn't understand why the ZL1 had an engine cover in the first place - until I saw all the hoses and stuff. It's a good engine and needs to be seen, not hidden by a cover....

Anyway - the silver cover will look better than red. I think the carbon fiber will look good as well.

Defintely needs some hose relocations done before the cover comes off... Probably one of the next things I'll dig into...
