Headlights won't turn off, even after the car is powered off for 20 minutes
I have a 2020 ZL1 1LE and the headlights won't turn off. Just started 2 days ago. I had to pull the negative side of battery to get them to turn off. One I reconnect they come right back on.
Anyone seen this or know what might be the issue?

Did you accidentally turn them on with the headlamp control on the turn signal stalk? Do you get a warning chime with the door open and the car turned off?

No, I checked that. No ding either. I can't figure this out, sigh.
Are they controlled by the Body Control Module? I can't find a fuse.

Body control module sounds possible.
Any aftermarket LED lights installed on your car? |

No, but I do/did have the Diode Dynamics Side Markers. But I removed the, as I was thinking the same thing.
I even changed my headlights to OEM from the dealership, thinking that might have been it. I even removed my Ballenger AFR500Can as well... But the headlights on the ZL1 will not turn off.

I have repair manual for 2016/17, so hope not much has changed.
I think the relay controlling your low beams may be stuck on. Do you have high intensity discharge lighting? Do High beams turn on/off normally? Assuming "yes" to both questions: the controlling relays and fuses are in the underhood fuse block at right front of engine compartment. the low beam signal powering the relay comes off pin 13 of the BCM behind left side of dash. The wire is described as "BRN/YEL" which i think means brown with yellow stripe. That wire enters the underhood block at position 24. I would check if that wire is receiving 12V when your lights are stuck on. if 12V is present, the BCM is suspect. If no voltage, the relay is stuck on. |

That is EXACTLY what the problem is/was...GM said the relay was stuck on and I had to get a new fuse block! That solved the problem...well, until I connected my Ballenger AFR500CAN AND MPVI (to monitor what my E85 Percent) and then the headlights stayed on again. I've contacted by HPTuners and Ballenger...waiting on response from them. The car is going back to GM Monday for another Fuse Block replacement. Next I will only connect ONE of the two items above to see which one is causing the problem.
THANK YOU for the information ctrlz!

If relay contacts are fusing, that suggests heat from overcurrent from the load is fusing them together. You can pull the low beam fuse and put an ammeter across the contacts for the fuse blades and see what you are getting. I think those lights are fused at 20 amps, so make sure your meter can handle that.
last time I dealt with fused relay contacts was on a heating element for an oven, which is a place you expect to deal with high current and high heat! |
