Depending on OnStar or AAA or whatever for a flat tire is ridiculous at best. I have a 20x9 rear wheel and 285 tire I keep for my 1LE. Already had to use it once. I carry it with me on all extended drives. Locally I leave it at home since I always have someone who can just run it to me. I keep a scissor jack and collapsible lug wrench wrapped in a towel under the trunk floor by my battery.

I'm almost ready to purchase the performance companies space saver spare kit. They told me it will work on the front and rear of my 2LT/RS. Even with the different sized tires. Do I need to worry about my differential if it is used on the rear for a short drive, say less than 20 miles.

Hi. I'm not a mechanic so I'm not qualified to answer that question. However, this donut spare is just meant to get you either home or to where your tire can be repaired. I seriously doubt driving up to 20 miles would hurt anything.

Keep in mind the LT comes with a factory option of a spare that is a smaller diameter than the other tires and is acceptable on the v6 front or back. The issue comes with the SS and ZL1 where the smaller diameter is only viable on the front. This is why the spare isn't an option on the v8 models.

I thought it had more to do with the RS package because of the larger rim and tire sizes?
