That is what I thought, but I figured there's a chance I missed something.

anybody have experience on Royal Purple??

I'm about to change my oil in about a week or so so I'm looking for some opinions on which oil to chose.

Should I stay wit Mobil1 5W-30 or switch to Royal Purple 5W-30?

BTW my car is my DD and I do race the car when ever I have the opportunity.

Started w/Mobil 1, last two have been with Castrol Edge

Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, or Amsoil. As long as you change it regularly, all three of these oils meet GM specs. Albeit, Mobil 1 has gotten some publicity on iron content recently.

RP 5w30 is a great oil, probably not much better than M1 5w30. However if you race at all I would look into M1 0w40.

The M1 5w30 is able to do 7K-10K mile OCI's easily. Just saying.

Yup, exactly what he said. I negotiated 6 free oil changes at the dealership so I'm good til the warranty runs out.. Then I'll probably change it myself.

On occasion Walmart has 5qt jugs of Mobil 1 on sale for $22 - pretty good deal, haven't priced a filter yet..

Meeting the spec and being certified are two different things.
If the bottle doesn't have the actual Dexos1 symbol printed on it somewhere then it isn't licensed by GM. The main purpose of Dexos1 over the old standard GM4718M is ash control which is formulated into the oil with the additive package. Amsoil and Castrol both meet those requirements. BUT, for warranty purposes you have to ensure the oil has the symbol on 2011 and newer GM engines. If you want to throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing, GM says that if Dexos1 isn't available then the previous standard (GM4718M) is an approved alternate.

2010 and older (L99 or LS3) engines are much different. They don't say words like "must" or "shall". All the oil has to do is "meet" the standards. This is quoted from the 2010 owners manual.

"The engine requires a special engine oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M. Oils meeting this standard can be identified with the American Petroleum Institute (API) Certified for Gasoline Engines starburst symbol. However, not all synthetic API oils with the starburst symbol will meet this GM standard. Look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M."

I'm not an Amsoil hater. In fact, I want to use it. Just curious where ppl are getting this info.
Look on the front label for any of the logos shown above to identify an authorized, licensed dexos1™ engine oil.

It's on the container, pick up a quart and check it out. I am quite sure Amsoil far exceeds dexos requirements.

I use (1) quart Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer with (7) quarts Mobil 1 full synthetic. I love this combo. Used this in my GTO as well as all my vechiles and it may be just me but I feel like they run better....

Eeek.... Pouring that Lucas in your engine is like pouring one quart of 150w oil in your engine.

Good stuff, been using it for 2 years. I believe it has better lubricity values than thre Mobil 1
