2010 SS Suspension Upgrade Recommendations - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Been searching old threads but fell I'm wasting time.
My 2010 SS still has original Suspension and Struts, but at 278,000 miles she's feeling pretty worn-out. I don't want to lower the car, but I want to upgrade rather than replace with original parts. Can someone either give a recommendation for an aftermarket company that will help me select the best parts for my application or point me to an old thread with that information?

Also I plan on buying aftermarket rims and going to a square set-up --> 20x10 + 35 offset wheels with P275/40 20 tires

The absolute best suspension components are Detroit Speed. They have front and rear available. I use their control arms, trailing arms, etc, with stock struts and lowering springs and the car is really, really nice.

A distant second is BMR. Most people buy BMR to save a little money- but really, the parts are...pedestrian.

I kept it simple and went all factory Z/28 parts (for arms/bushings), however, apparently a lot of those parts are no longer available. If I were to do it again (or once these parts wear out) I'd go Detroit Speed based on what I've heard of them.

If you can find them the OEM 1LE bars are pretty good, but you would need to change the rear LCAs and sway bar links, but you really want to do that regardless. Koni shocks and struts seems to be the choice of many. I run factory bars except for a 32mm Pedders on the rear of the vert with factory 1LE and Z28 shocks. I would not bother with trying to replace toe rods or trailing arms with factory pieces, but I don't know you need that if you are not running it hard. You will want to install radius arm inserts on the front. Whiteline has them for around $20.

If you want to go full aftermarket and want quality parts that won't break the bank... BC Racing Coilovers, and BMR supporting parts. You can adjust the coilovers to ride at factory height, and they will be fully adjustable for softness or stiffness.

Stock type replacements, I would go with the Konis as suggested above.

If you are a baller and money is of no value to you, then absolutely go Detroit speed. I can't justify $400 for a set of toe links personally. I have the BMR units and they are very stout, nicely powdercoated, Poly Bushings that have never squeaked on me, and highly adjustable.

Most of the Aftermarket stuff such as BMR, UMI, Detroit Speed, etc... are designed with lowered cars in mind. So if you want to stay stock height, I would recommend buying Moog brand parts for control arms, toe rods, etc... and Koni/Pedders Shocks and struts.

Thanks for the recommendations. I haven't decided exactly which way I'm going yet. If money were no issue, I'd go with the Detroit Speed. But from what I can see, I'd end-up paying over $7000 for what I need. The reason that I want to stay at stock height is due to the car being my daily driver (except in the Winter). there have been times when I scraped the bottom of the bumper cover at the stock height.

I don’t know if GM still offers the 1LE track pack kit to retro fit a 2010 SS , but it makes your car a completely different animal. You need to add the newer LCA’s and you are set.

Just ordered 1LE Track pack form Hawks Performance and the lower Control Arms from GM Parts direct.

Now I just have to decide which rims to buy.

Did you mean Hawks Motorsports. I thought Hawk Performance just did brakes. Regardless, the package from Hawks Motorsports is a good deal that will significantly change the behavior of the car. Nice choice.

Now you just need the ZL1 front brakes. It never ends.

I replaced a lot of suspension parts this summer. I went with Detroit Speed rear bar which came with the upgrade links. Making this change from F-3 to F-4 lower control arms are needed and I went with GM direct. They come with bushings. Used some BMR parts and only issue was the trailing arms which I could not get to fit around the new bushings. The rep I talked to was not real helpful and they were slow to return emails. Phastek contacted them and made it right so all is good. I will say the BMR rep did let me know the measurement that the open end of the arm should be and I mic d the set I had. My pair were .1 narrower . I’m having a friend at a local machine shop mill them. The other BMR products were great

I did BMR trailing and toe arms, Pegasus solid subframe bushings, Z28 upper control arm bushings, FE4 conversion with Zl1 swaybar, Prothane brake arm inserts, offset diff bushings, and Ridetech coilovers. Everything is in my sig.

Honestly, with that many miles on it, just replacing with stock suspension components will make it feel like a new car again.
