Tally of broken output shaft VIN's

If your T6060 output shaft has broken please post your VIN and whether GM repaired it under warranty. I'm trying to get an idea of VIN number range and results of warranty work for those of us that are worried that we may have ticking time bombs (VIN's under 25000)!

My car is VIN 23036 and so far so good but I'm worried that I may have one of the weak output shafts. Mine was built on 6/30/09 1 month before the production stop in July '09. GM has not come forth with any information and has left us to wait for failure and have a warranty claim. Just like most of us here that have done any mods I worry that if mine goes they might give me a hard time. Also I'd like to sink more money into suspension upgrades and maybe a tune but I don't want to be faced with a $4000 bill if my shaft goes!

I did a search and couldn't find a good source of vin numbers affected. If there was another thread on this I appologise for the repost and please direct me to the thread! If we get together and compile some data maybe we can have a better idea of which VIN's may be affected! Thanks in advance for your posts!

yep you and I are screwed. Obviously mine wont be a warranty item due to mods. But on the bright side....the output shaft is only part of the problem and a new tranny would not solve the syncro problems so worry not and save up about 3K for a new one. Vin 8874 May 09

So with all that power has your tranny held up or did you have a shaft failure?

Good to know! Thanks! I guess in reality I'm hoping for more positive feedback like yours! I'm thinking there's probably a batch of closely numbered VIN's affected. That's why I'd like to get a tally of all the broken ones! We'll see!

Its still working fine. 200 track runs to date. However, I dont do 6000 rpm clutch drops. I also always run with TC and stable track off. In fact I am still on my original half shafts still. I think a lot has to do with the driving habits regarding output shafts.

But my builder knows the weakness of the syncros so like I said...its a matter of time no matter how its sliced. Output shaft bearing was added subsequent to ours being produced and has corrected most of the issues with the shaft itself. Our cases are already forged for the bearing so you could bite the bullet and have one installed if you choose...but you might as well build the guts at the same time.....

So are you saying that after VIN 25000 GM started installing the bearing?

Broke mine at the track...let out the clutch a little too fast and it snapped. 600 rwhp and drag radials, and it was hooked up good too. Vin in the 35000 range. There was no output shaft bearing. Now I am rolling with an built RPM Tranny

not sure your vin matters on this one...with that setup, you'd break a lot of stock transmissions.
