Yes they did but there was no recall or plan for replacing them other than fixing them as they fail. GM never gave a vin range or really any information other than that! All we know is if you have a vin number under 25,000 you may have the ticking time bomb! It was stated that the output shafts were not heat treated properly and can fail under extreme conditions like using launch control or doing burnouts.

That sucks.... sounds like the cars in the 9000 vin range are loaded with the bad parts.
My vin is 9691 and I remember seeing some others close to ours that were broke. Sent from my EVO 4G

My main concern is whether or not it's going to be covered under warranty with my mods. I had it towed to the nearest dealership but they don't open until Monday. I printed out the TSB (#PIP4666E). Is there anything else I should show them?

What mods do you have?
I have a cam, LT headers, dyno tune, CAI, drag radials... and they covered mine so long as I allowed them to flash my ECM to stock. I just mentioned the TSB and informed them that my vin was in the range for bad parts and left it at that. I didn't mention any of mods or anything, and it worked out for me. Sent from my EVO 4G

I'm glad to hear that they didn't hassle you about having mods. My mods are in my sig. I've got a dyno tune too. I should be able to reload it if they have to flash the ECM.. Why did they have to flash yours? Do they have to send a copy of it to GM?

From what I gather, the dealership has to call GM regarding these issues where there is a part failure, and a TSB issued for the possible problem. When the dealership called me to let me know what GM said, he told me that GM would cover the repair with the mods in place if I was willing to flash the ECM to stock.... which was a no brainer. I don't know if they had to send a copy to GM or not, but all I had to do was take it back to my tuner and he reloaded the tune.
They replaced the entire trans in my car and I would assume they'll do the same for you, pending the dealership doesn't give you a hard time. I hate to say I played dumb, but there is no doubt my car has engine work done and they didn't even mention it, so I didn't either. Hopefully they take inconsideration that the part is bad and GM recognized it early and replace it regardless of the work you have done. I also looked up the Magnuson Moss Act and read up on that... I don't know how well that works, but basically they have to prove a mod or mods cause the part to fail.... and I think they'll have a hard time doin that since the issue is already addressed by GM.

I really appreciate the input! It has definitely helped ease the suspense as I wait for the dealership to open in the morning.

I asked a few of the GM guys and they said there is no confirmed vin list with the bad parts. If I remember right... the TSB covers the first 25,000 cars built, however they were thinking it only affected a portion of cars within in that range.

Added to list on first post! Good luck with getting it repaired. They replaced my entire trans and I have a lot of mods also. The only thing the dealership gave me a hard time about was the Hurst shifter but GM OK'd the swap out anyway! My shaft didn't break but the 2nd & 3rd gears were giving me grief, that's why they did the swap out. I was very glad cause now I don't have to worry about the output shaft blowing up on me!
