CAI in Black photos

The CAI in Black arrived upon the doorstep yesterday and I wasted no time in installing it on the wife's car. Very nice kit, comes with color photo instructions and installation really could not have been easier. While I was at it, I installed an ADM Race scoop which was a bit more involved but not very difficult and the photos that ADM (Andy) posted were quite helpful. Since the cai was powder-coated black, I painted the airbox insulation (silver) flat black as well with high-temp paint. Although not necessary, I also placed heat mat/insulation around the air scoop and sealed around it with HVAC duct tape. When the washer bottle is removed to install the scoop, there is a gap in the CAI airbox that aligns with where the washer bottle was. I covered the gap with heat mat/insulation, HVAC duct tape and painted it flat black to match.
Thanks again to Chase at Apex

And there is no HP/TQ difference or anything with heat, right? I am looking hard at this one. Nice install!

CAI hasn't done any testing specifically on the black but the black textured powder coat is clearly not going to reflect heat as well as the high polished ceramic coating. That being said, while the ceramic coating is a prominent aesthetic feature (I might point out, the reason its so prominent is because all stock intakes systems and the vast majority of aftermarket intake systems are black.) and does have a practical purpose on the standard CAI intake its not what provides the bulk of the performance gains. The real gains are made by the addition of a more efficient intake tract feeding a higher volume of air into the engine.

I would point out the amazing performance numbers posted by Camaros running ADM Performance intake systems as real world evidence that the black textured powder coated finish isn't going to make a significant impact on the CAI systems performance. Its just a new option we thought we would offer for the more sinister crowd.

Thanks, good reply. How much does the black system run for? And im assuming is the exact installation as the polished one right?

ADM scoop from ADM Performance: $77 shipping included
Black CAI cold air intake, Apex-Speed: $449 shipped
65-66 Mustang windshield washer bag install kit, CJ Pony Parts, P/N WWK2: $24 shipped
Electric windshield washer pump, Summit Racing, ANCO P/N 65-01: $15
Total cost approximately $580, including various tie wraps, heat shrink, etc.

While inspecting the tube prior to installation, I noticed that there is a grey coating on the inside while other tubes I have seen tend to be more shiney. I'm not sure if it is a heat barrier coating or not - just putting out information about what I saw.

When you install the scoop, you must remove the washer bottle. I mounted a washer bag (also black on the front side) where the washer bottle was using the included hardware in the kit.

I mounted the new washer motor, which comes with electrical connectors, directly below the bag using some well placed tie wraps and more HVAC duct tape for a smoother look, although you can't see it unless you remove the inner fender. I cut off the stock washer plug, striped the wires, mated the new pump electrical connector and sealed with heat shrink, routed the wires in the wire loom and wrapped with black tape like the factory did.

The washer bag install kit comes with the correct size tube to mate the washer bag to the pump. The pump discharge nozzle is the correct size for the Camaro's existing tubing that was removed from the stock washer bottle pump so it is very much plug and play once you decide where you want to mount the bag. The bag holds about 1/2 gallon, btw.
