Local dealership = failure

I found out today i'm being stationed in Jacksonville, FL for the next few years - so I went to the local dealership to ask about ordering, and markups.

First off he told me that pricing would come out around january 1st, and production most likely around april i tried to correct him and he said that whomever I 'heard' this from must have an 'inside line' , i didn't feel like explaining all the places that have publicized info bout the car and I just moved onto MSRP markup. (btw, if ur job is selling something, wudn't u be inclined to know as much about ur product as possible?)

"Well, until we get price information and how many our dealership will be allotted we can't tell. They may only give us 1, who knows"
needless to say I'm almost positive they'll be jacking up the price...need to find a better dealer

There are tons of dealers in Jax (I lived there for 17 year before moving to Mass) you shouldn't have a problem finding a decent one. Sometimes you'll get a bad salesmen too, try going back another time and talking to someone else.

Also Camaros are very popular in the south. Dealers will be getting plenty of cars allocated to them.

Coggin told me, a couple months ago, they would sell them for around 50K.

I was in there getting a quick fix on My Tahoe... I asked them how they justified that number.

He just gigled at me.

So I left the show room.

But that was before any of the official GM data was released. So, he was probably talking out of his @$$.

We say this a lot, but dealers are really the least knowledgeable about the product. Salesmen DO NOT care about cars, in general. They care about sales and money. It is just another product for them to sale and it wouldn't make a difference if it was a car or a toaster or a vacuum. Its all the same to them. When I worked in inventory at a dealership my boss had me make a product knowledge quiz for the salesmen. Even though all my questions had pretty simple answers straight out of the brochure they give customers (which is very superficial information to begin with) my boss came in the next week and told me to tone it down because they just weren't getting it.

There are a few salesmen that are car enthusiasts. The problem is that they halike 32 cars they need to memorize. That and differences between say a malibu, camry, accord, etc. If the salesman is into the car he's trying to sell, it makes him that much more likely to sell the car though. They're trying to talk about the car itself, not just some stats from a brochure.

Something tells me if you mention Scott's name to a salesman he will get a glazed look on his face, of course then he won't see the punch coming so it could work out to be a good thing.

Yes, it was a Coggin (on blanding Blvd in orange park) i've driven 2 of my friends over there to buy cars and the second time they recognized me and gave me a $100 commission the same guy was there, but he was making a sale and i didn't feel like waiting...so i'll go back later and talk to him on a later date.
