Anyone think they will top the Hellcat?
What are the chances Chevy will rate the Z-Whatever in the 700 range. Im guessing not a chance with the Z06 at 650 but it doesnt hurt to dream lol

It's a 1 trick pony as far as performance goes. It's 4500 lbs. A ~3700 lb camaro would need roughly 620-630 hp to stay with it in a drag. In every other performance aspect the car isn't even worth benchmarking lol... I'm sure a 4th gen with a few mods could out handle it.
I doubt gm will top that hp number any time soon... Mainly because they don't need to. |

Nope. I think the Hellcat/Challenger popularity is more from the brainwash level ad campaign Dodge ran than it's power output. I can't remember the last time an automaker ran a superbowl ad for a pony car.
Look at the the last gen GT500. It got alot of attention for it's HP number but it wasn't enough to put the Mustang lineup over the top of Camaro sales. |

Well no.. because it doesnt have to. Imo, the hellcat craze has everything to do with the 707hp, period.
most folks have no idea what a hellcat is.

I'm so tired of this discussion... I would much rather have an all around car than a straight line rocket. ZL1, 1LE, Z/28, and Z06 proves what direction GM wants to go in..

What makes you think they will always be straight line cars? The next gem Hellcat and GT500 may handle as well as the ZL1 but with substantially more horsepower. Why can't GM build a 700 hp ZL1 that will tear up road courses and drag strips?

This is America, why not? GM should produce a muscle car with 700hp, preferably a Camaro, expect the Zora model to have over 700hp for sure. I know Zora will cost more than the Camaro, but still if a Hellcat at MSRP can be had for 65k which gets you 700hp why not?

They can. It's relatively easy in fact. Just some investment and development. The question isn't why can't they, but why would they. Fiat did nothing really magical. They just realized a Big Bang for the buck was possible for the lowest volume of the 3 cars and that a bunch of number addicts would give them free pub by pining about all over the Internet.

I love all these guys that care so much about how fast the car "is around the track" A typical track day is over $500 for ONE day. Then you see them over in another thread worried about how much MRC option is going to cost. I rather have the rush of a 700hp monster that I use every day, then some magazine telling me my car can go around some track in Germany 1.5 seconds faster then the opponents. Enough with the fanboys. I'm a diehard GM fan but not afraid to say the aren't about "wow"ing anyone anymore. Except the $75k Z28. A lot of people said wow to that.

And the thing about the hellcat is the size. The driving experience as a whole with my 5th gen felt kind of numb compared to previous sports cars I have owned or driven due to its size and other things I won't get into. Driving around a 700 hp car might not be as exciting as you think due to its 4500 lbs...especially when the newness wears off. I would/ have gotten bored with cars that only do one or a couple things well. But this is just my opinion... |
