first dry day with camaro
i live in MI and got my camaro yesterday and its been icy/rainy/ snowing..... today i for the first time felt the power of a ss..... its was all some! i am not totally use to the car yet. so i was in first gear and gave it gas..lol, and i noticed that when the camaro hit 4500 RPM it would start to fish tail.... i am to lazy to check the chevy web site... but i believe the camaro hits it max TQ around 4500-6100 RPM.... so thats probably why.
i need to learn how much gas to give it to get max performances, and know like how much before it starts to give out..... anyone know at what RPM i should launch from to get quickest 0-60/ 1/4 mile times ??? thanks |

There too many variables to provide a simple answer. The launch control provides you up to 4K rpm, but surface type, ie, asphalt, concrete, temperature, surface conditions, etc, all play a part in determining how much power you can apply for maximum acceleration. You need to practice and develop a "feel" for feathering the clutch while synchronizing it with the proper amount of throttle. Do not side step the clutch at launch..... and be careful. Alfie

Sidestepping the clutch
Right foot = to the floor on the gas pedal
Left foot = step the clutch down to the floor, move the shifter and side step your foot to the left to let the clutch "pop" back up on its own. Not recommended.

The best launches I get on the street and track is to hold the clutch in at idle then let the clutch out as you give it gas. By the time the car is moving the RPM's are at 3,000 and you have to just ride the clutch out. These cars require a lot of clutch out of the hole. You have to use your clutch pedal to modulate wheel spin. It takes a ton of practice and best 60' I mustered was a 2.08

I slipped mine a bit tonight, but I believe that intersection was icy. In fact I washed my car and before I was done at the car wash, parts were iced up. I had to use my mirror defrosters tonight. It was only 19 degrees. |
