6.2L shame or not.
When I first got my car I was feeling proud to have an LS3 which came from the mighty Vette. Sure it's huge and therefore sucks gas but I figured it was a great reliable engine. But i've been feeling a bit depressed as of late when reading people on other sites claiming how antiquated the engine is (pushrod) and how Ford is much better with the Coyote and only needing 5L to get similar power.
But I had a look at the fuel economy specs and the 6.2L engine betters Fords 5L in the city and falls only 1MPG short on Hiway. So then I thought, The old pushrod makes about the same power but consumes pretty much the same gas despite the extra 1.2L and is a physically a smaller engine. So is it really that bad? Then there's the added perks of it being easier to work on, less moving parts etc. I know the future is direct inject and VVT but I guess for now, I'm not really that displeased with the LS3 after all. I have the l99....ive beat on it pretty good. I've heard about all the potential problems....thats with all cars. One thing that's been a constant....GM has always builtv a solid v8.....yours will go into the books a one of the best. If GM thought high enough of it to put it in the Vette that's ok by me. You dont take a backseat to anybody.

Two different engines to achieve similar results. Talking stock.

Which would you rather pay to mod or be responsible for when the warranty expires?

I've worked on the Ford's overhead cam stuff, and it's no fun and not cheap.
They Coyote might be great out of the box and easy to take up a level with a tune, but then you're stuck. Even their FI guys don't pull near the numbers you see on LS engines, stock or otherwise.

I actually came across that video. It was hard to watch due to the half dead nature of the guy, but the content was good.

The LS3 is so "bad" that it's the engine of choice for rebuilds and mods pretty much worldwide.
Saw a thread a while back on a carshow where several of the highly modified Mustangs had LS engines in them. |

I don't know much about engines but did some research about them. My opinion would be that the engine is a little outdated but it's still very reliable even after the warranty expires. You don't hear much about bad engines unless it's modded wrong, stock wise you really don't hear much about it. Yes it's a big engine and yes it does suck gas but with the proper bolt on parts, it is nice to actually add MPG. Maybe GM will update the LS3 with some new tech down the road but only time will tell. Again just my opinion.

GM is master of the V8 small block, even if it is antiquated tech the LS3 will out perform most engines.

Ford has had some of the most ass backwards motors in the last 20 years. The 2v and 3v were made so the spark plugs would break in side the head and you would need to buy special tap out kit and treaded bungs to put the new plugs back in the head. The new 5.0 is know for wrecking pistons 5&7 in stock forum from predetonation with the factory tune ,the 3.5 eco boost has a problem with water pooling in the intercooler and killing the motor when you go to hit the gas (often happens when trying to quickly get through intersection )...T-bone anyone? ...let ford have there half ass under tested fancy junk

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Each has its pros and cons. However, add fanboys to the debate and you get a bunch of nonsense.
