If I was a betting man (and I am ) I would put money that it's just as Camkid54 said. They put these on as an easy temp fix. They'll get a fixed Brembo caliper in and start putting them on cars then. It'll be a recall for the ones with the weights on the calipers to come get replaced.

It's not a safety problem. In fact, I will probably just leave mine with the weights. It won't bother me at all.

I'll look at them on a regular basis and sure if I really just don't like the way it looks then I'll have them put new ones on but the point is that it's not a big deal. They'll be just fine for now. I really doubt they just used a cheap adhesive. they won't be falling off of the rotor. I've never heard of a brake pad coming loose from the base metal (not that it hasn't happened) so I would assume they put these weights on with care to make it work.

It might not even be a problem with the caliper, maybe the pad material that was chosen is leading to squeal. Some pads are just noisy.

I have seen wheel weights get peeled off by getting too close with a pressure washer while trying to blast the grime off the inside of their wheel.

For those of you that already have your 2010 Camaro, you may want to use caution and check your "chick magnets" if you use a pressure washer.

irpq11 -- I agree with your comments 95% of the time, but why you would want to keep a band-aid fix on your new car is beyond me.

Great find dude.
Oddly enough, it doesn't look like they're gluing the pad to the backing. It looks like the pad has had a large portion chipped off the corner and they're either preparing to glue it back on, or are filling the space with the glue (look at how much of it they're using!). It doesn't make sense, which is the reason I felt unsure that it was a brake pad (despite looking exactly like one).

True. I see it now. But a brake pad still has to be attached to the backing by some type of adhesive.

Camaro brake weight question

With high-performance vehicles like the Camaro SS, minor brake noise is not uncommon. The weights act as a damper to reduce noise in certain driving conditions. This was done after careful evaluation and validation by the Chevrolet engineering team. These weights will only be added to early builds of the Camaro SS.

Whoever it is I think we have an answer to Brake Gate.

Early cars will get them. They'll start coming out without them and the early cars will get a replace. Simple.

Different pads definitely react differently and my guess is that the lead is the temp fix for a squeal THESE pads make and the TSB will be to replace the pads with a different compound and remove the weights

Sounds legit, but it would be nice if it came from someone we can trust.
