Valvoline SynPower MST 5w40 On Sale

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but Napa is running the sale on Valvoline this month again. I remember them doing it the same time last year as well. Stock up if you run this oil, I know I did lol.

Have we come to the consensus that dexos 2 provides better protection for daily driving than dexos 1? Or is it a good oil for track days? Or both? lol

GM recommends a dexos 2 0w-40 or 5w-50 for track use. It's also fine for normal driving.

I think you meant to say 5w-40. That's what I picked for track and daily driving.

Picked up 11 qts today from the local NAPA to get this thing ready for track days this year. What oil filters are the best or just use the recommended AC Delco PF64?

PF64 is what I run in mine. Figure it's safe considering GM did all of their track testing with this filter. You also don't have to worry about trying to match the correct bypass pressure of the filter, either, which I think would be more important for track use.

I got the dealer to pay for 4x 5w-40 MST oil changes. That will cover me for at least 20K miles and likely the duration I own the car

I can understand using this for track days, but for daily driving, what about the idea that dexos2 oil is not good for catalytic converters?

I am to understand high levels of zinc is bad for the cats. Valvoline does not have a high lvl of zinc.

NAPA has Valvoline SynPower MST 5W40 for 4.99 / quart as their monthly special.

Blackstone reports using this oil here:
