Can I put a 315/35-20 on a 20" x 10" Wheel???

I have a 2013 1SS/RS Camaro M6. I have my new rims all picked out for it, but I was told by a certain retailer that I cannot run a 315/35-20 on a 20" x 10" on the rear wheels. They told me that minimum wheel width should be 10.5" for this tire size. Is there a major safety issue with this? Will I be replacing my 315 tires every year due to excessive wear because the wheel is too narrow? It would be for "Fun" driving, maybe 5000 to 7500 miles per year use, not for drag racing or street racing, but, if I want to kick it and do 100 to 120 mph every once in a while, would I have to worry about a blowout? Thanks in advance to all who respond.

It's not optimal, but it can be done. You will just have more sidewall flex and a reduced contact patch. You should see the tiny wheels guys put wide rubber on for autocross. I've seen 285's on a 7" wheel! haha

^^ Tyler basically covered it. It's do-able, but it's not optimal. Largest I really recommend on a 10" wide wheel is 305, and that's still pretty beefy.

Kind of depends on the brand tire too, some are narrower in a 315 like Nitto, others like Michelin run wider...check the specs on the tire witdth's when selecting tire.

Yes, the Nitto's are narrower...I have 295/35-20 Michelin's that are as wide as the Nitto 315's..there is a thread on this...

That's what I thought...that a lot of C5 owners were running 315's on 10" wheels. If there is not a safety issue with this, and there doesn't seem to be, then I'm putting 315's on my new 10's when they get here.

OK...Here is my plan of action:

Fronts: 20x8.5 wheels with 32mm offset and 275/40-20 tires

Rears: 20x10 wheels with 34mm offset and 315/35-20 tires

With this combination, can anybody tell me if I would have any rubbing or clearance issues?

(car is not lowered and the tires would be Michelin Pilots on the rears and Pirelli P-Zeros on the fronts).

now the question is, is it all Nittos that run narrow or is it just the Invos?
