Safety Inspection...

So I finally got my vehicle over to Germany and my car failed her inspection because the exhaust is too loud. I'm running KooKs Headers w/ high flow cats and the borla ATAK catback exhaust. It ran 108dB and the legal limit over here is 90. I don't have my stock setup anymore(stupid me) but I can always get one hopefully. What is my best alternative to getting the exhaust legal?

I'd suggest to lend a stock exhaust from a german car for inspection.

I'm shure someone will help you. Just introduce yourself in the "Vorstellung neuer Mitglieder" section and tell them where you're located. Nice guys over there!

Magnaflow Street Catback. Its the quietest catback on the market. It has two mufflers plus a resonated X pipe (3rd muffler). This catback will make your exhaust significantly quieter.
The Magnaflow Street or the stock exhaust are you best options.

Too bad you're not stateside, I would definitely work a trade deal (plus cash) of some kind with you for those headers and cats!!!

I have headers no cats with this setup and my car is very quiet at idle and part throttle with no drone or resonance and I have an A6. It does have a nice deep tone at WOT but not enough to attract unwanted attention.

You could also choose to purchase an S-Type Axle back and swap out the rear section of the ATAK.

I just want it to pass inspection and then i'll swap it back. would it be easier to get an axle back or would a set of stock cats to swap out be a better choice?

I'd say it would be better (easier) to swap out the cat-back. If you want to swap out the axle-back, you'll probably end up having to cut your system up somewhere around the axle. And you really don't want to mess with removing the headers and cats if you can achieve the same quieter goal with the cat-back. Just my opinion.

That damn atak is crazy loud compared to other mundane catback systems. 108-90db will be a bit of a challenge though. I hope a catback swap will help you out. Do they do something like full throttle during inspection?

they rev it to about 3-4k i believe. it probably would have hit like 130db if he cranked it full open because the atak spikes at WOT. it sounds awesome but the Germans don't like it...

I'd give it a try. This is the cheapest and savest method to pass the inspection. Afterwards you can decide which way you wanna go.
