Winter storage question

So I've never put a car away during the winter...and I know I can't leave the tires on in cold weather so I suppose the question I have is how do I do it? Any suggestions?

My winter storage lasts 4 months or less. Buy a cover to keep the dust off of it. Change the oil before you park it. That's it. You don't need to worry about the tires or the battery if it's only for a few months.

I always park mine with about 1/4 tank of fuel. The first trip in spring is to the gas station to fill it with fresh fuel and set the tire pressures.

- Wash/Wax the car and put a quality dust cover on it
- Put styrofoam under the tires and tires inflated to about 38-40psi
- Full tank of gas with Fuel Stabilizer (you want to the tank to be full so there is no space for water buildup to eat away at your tank)
- Make sure to use a good battery tender but it is usually not needed
- Store with fairly new old (less than 1000 miles)

No to the fuel stabilizer. It isn't needed for short-term (less than 6 months) storage. The fuel tank is made of plastic, and the tank is completely sealed from the atmosphere. Moisture/condensation is no issue.

Store your tires inside.

I'm jealous, I don't have to store it for the complete winter but will not be driven near as much!!!

You do not have the 1LE tires so you cannot say.

I have this thread bookmarked for winter storage:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254887

As far as the tires go, read this:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...light=Cracking

What I got from this is they say do not move the car below 20F (and give them time to warm up when exposed to temps below 20) and recommend not driving on them below 40F. I have driven in the upper 30s and have had no problems, I won't be taking them off to store inside because its just not practical. Mine will be in an attached, unheated garage setup as described in the 1st link. No dealership has told me anything about this bulletin, and the dealership that I bought from had a ZL1 outside all winter... in the snow.

My winter storage:

Set tires at 50psi to avoid flat spots
Full tank of gas
Fresh oil, just because
I wash and wax it then cover it up
Install a Battery Tender brand to maintain the battery. (Will not overcharge it)

Now if you are in a garage that gets rodents or condensation on the floor you can:

Put a tarp or plastic on the floor.
Put charcoal in a bucket outside and inside the car
Supposedly mothballs keep mice away. (No idea if it works)
Finally check your airbox before starting the car for seeds or a nest.

Matt
