Not trying to make a point, just sharing info...I just thought it was Ironic that 5 of the top 10 companies in the world...are Oil Companys...and we sit back and do nothing as they rap us at the pumps everyday!
Thats it...my two cents

If I could make BILLIONS (literally) in profit every quarter, I'd imagine my company would be on that list too.
The Top 3 OilCo's could probably group together and subsidize (make free) all the personal vehicle gas usage in America for one month and not make a dent in their collective bottom line. Sobering, isn't it? There needs to be Governmental Regulations that cap the maximum amount of profits for these guys. The rest should be put into a unified escrow with agreed upon arbitrators. The only tricky part would be for everyone to agree where and how these monies should be re-distributed. Yah, I know, ridiculous idea - but since we're throwing our .2c in here..... |

Whoa!! This is obviously a sore point for you. Whaddya mean, man? Not being antagonistic -- just curious? You saying we are incorrectly scapegoating oil companies? |

Yeah its been done to death in other threads and its just getting sore for a lot of people. So instead of continuing it here, I had my smiley kill himself and oddly, for some reason, I feel better.

As many issues as ford has had over the years (Pinto, Bronco, Exploder)
..and as many issues Honda hasn't had.. I'm quite surprised they aren't flipped in the ranks. esp. with the whole Honda popularity thing going on.

Actually, I think Honda's smallness is part of the reason they're doing so well. Often (not always) quantity comes at the expense of quality. Honda knows what they're good at and they stick to it. They don't go for cheap fleet sales to boost numbers. They're focused and dedicated, and I respect them a lot for that. They don't cater much to the enthusiast crowd, and the styling doesn't suit my tastes, but I'd recommend them to a friend looking for solid transportation.

Hey... I hate to burst your bubble but it is actually worse then you think it it. Here is the top ten largest companies by market cap as of the close of the markets on 7/3/08.
Name Symbol Mkt cap in millions Exxon Mobil XOM $466,392 General Electric GE $268,223 Microsoft Corp MSFT $241,959 Wal-Mart Stores WMT $223,215 Chevron Corp CVX $202,598 Procter & Gamble PG $194,384 AT&T Inc. T $193,558 Johnson & Johnson JNJ $183,521 Berkshire Hathaway BRK.A $180,746 Google Inc. GOOG $168,668 Int'l Business Mach. IBM $164,186 Apple Inc. AAPL $149,982 ConocoPhillips COP $141,658 Cisco Systems, CSCO $136,573 JPMorgan Chase JPM $120,994 Pfizer Inc. PFE $120,082 Coca-Cola KO $119,578 Intel INTC $118,226 Hewlett-Packard HPQ $107,131 Oracle ORCL $106,791 Exxon is worth nearly half a TRILLION dollars... you can't even imagine that kind of money. I mean think about it. If you born today with a bank account with that much money it in and you were to spend one million dollars a day from the day you were born until the day you turned 100 you would only have spent 36.5 billion dollars which means that you would still have 430 Billion in the bank (assuming you made no interest on the money since you would making more then a million dollars a day in interest at this point as well). |

But the other side of the coin to it that Exxon, as with most oil companies, spend a LOT of money to make the money that they do. It is not like there is just 500 billion floating around waiting to be spent. like most companies they realize that you have to spend money to make money so you do have to take the numbers above with a grain of salt. Sure they are large but they also have operating costs that are astronomical as well.
